 Stayed for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.The site has excellent facilities. Toilets and showers are always clean and tidy with plenty of hot water to go round. Loads of water points and nice big sinks for washing up
and laundry.
The village is only a mile walk with plenty of pubs, if the weather is decent (unlike this weekend) then the beer gardens become very busy. There is also a pub at the top of the hill above campsite which does food. The village has a few shops, chip shop, restaurants and a lovely river that flows through the village.
The site is lovely and green surrounded by woods and river. All the pitches allow plenty of room for all campers. Rabbits and ducks roam around the site freely, we also had moles underneath our groundsheet that eventually found
there way around the tent for daylight.
This was our 3rd visit to Hayfield and will probably be our last. Its a lovely site but we find the staff most unhelpful, abrupt and unwilling to help you out in anyway. This is a C&CC site which is supposed to be the "Friendly Club", however on all 3 occasions that we have been the staff have been far from friendly. We Felt like we were putting them out, even when we visited the shop to spend our money!

Stayed for the May Bank Holiday weekend ( promised a Heatwave but it rained a fair bit ). As a couple we had booked over the phone and though we were not C&CC members at booking we had joined in the meantime and the kind managers of the campsite reduced our fees accordingly on arrival. You can also join at the site.
The site is lovely , green and surrounded by woods and a gently bubbling river and all pitches seemed a good size. Perfect entrance for Kinder Scout walking, bunny rabbits and ducks roam around in the early hours. Its an easy walk along a charming river into the village of Hayfield with village shop, pubs, restaurants and chip shop. Closest pub the Sportsman only a few minutes up the hill from the campsite. Lovely beer garden, friendly and efficient staff and will take bookings for dinner in the evening.
Toilets and showers (no charge) always incredibly clean, tidy and warm, hot water plentiful. Plenty of water points, big sinks for washing up and laundry. Shop seemed to have all the essentials open 9am-6pm and will order you a weekend paper.
Lovely mix of families and couples, no play area but the kids close to us seemed happy running around playing badminton etc. And there was plenty of space to do so.
A lovely campsite and a pleasurable stay.

Visited Hayfield for the bank holiday weekend, this was our first visit to a Camping and caravan Club site. We found the washroom facilities excellent, if anything the shower block was too warm. The site has a very small shop with limited opening but the village is only a short walk down by the river. The nearby pub was excellent and we could highly recommend the food, one added bonus was that we could take our dog in with us. The site is predominately used by walkers so facilities for children are limited, no playground or ball game area, this caused our seven year old some problems. We will go to a C&CC site again but would look for something more suited to our children, I could highly recommend this site, some of the scenery is magnificent and if walking is your thing you cannot go far wrong.

This was my first visit to a C&CC site and I went with high expectations! I wasn't disappointed, the site was lovely - an idyllic location nestling in the hills, but how the motorhomes and campervans navigated the steep windy narrow streets through Hayfield to get there I do not know - it was hairy enough in my little hatchback! It's probably for the best that caravans aren't accepted at this site.
Setting up my tent, it quickly became clear that the ground was rather stony in places - several bent pegs later I had learnt a valuable lesson about being properly equipped!
The local pub (The Sportsman) is lovely, dogs and children welcomed. We enjoyed a tasty meal there. No children's menu but children's portions available from the adult menu, which was a refreshing change from the usual chicken nugget / fishfinger type of fayre normally offered to children.
The toilets and showers were light, bright and clean, hot water plentiful, and free to use. I was a bit concerned that the doors were operated by a key coded pad, I imagined I would spend 3 days having to take my 5 year old to the toilet. But happily I underestimated my 5 year old! We did have to queue for the shower though - only 3 showers in the ladies and a busy campsite.
There is no children's play area but the children don't seem to care! As long as there are other kids to play with and the freedom to run around, who needs climbing frames!
I would definitely recommend a visit to Hayfield, and will no doubt return myself.

Our first camping trip and we found this site to be a good introduction. We arrived midweek and were put in the lower (right hand from the entrance) field which was perhaps a third to half full. The toilets etc. Were clean (although they should be, given that they are closed for a full hour and a half every day - you might like to note that there are public toilets just by the vehicle entrance to the site, provided for the walkers' car park opposite!).
The site filled up on Friday and was much more "lively" as children let off steam after being cooped up in a car for an hour or two, playing well into the night. One night was also somewhat disturbed by what was apparently a teething or sick baby in the tent nextdoor, screaming at 4:30am. Perhaps worse was the parents' inability to talk quietly once they had been woken and were trying to settle the child (men, please realise that your low voices carry an awful long way!).
There is lots of good walking right on the doorstep, including Kinder Scout and Lantern Pike, plus the Sett Valley Trail (2.5 miles of old railway line to New Mills). Bikes can be hired at the trail car park.
We sampled the Sportsman Inn (food excellent, beer OK - Thwaites only in terms of real ale), and there are numerous other pubs in the village given its size. There is a useful general store (selling filled rolls and a small range of baked goods as well as everything else), a newsagent, a greengrocers (which also has a small range of meat/cheese and other food), and a post office, but as of the end of July there is no longer a butcher (the site have not yet taken down their poster).
The pleasant spa town of Buxton is only half an hour away (including Millets and Yeomans for camping needs, plus other outdoor-type shops), and the Castleton / Mam Tor / caverns area is also nearby and well worth a visit.

Visited Hayfield during our tour of the Peak District in a rented 1965 VW campervan. This was by far the most pleasant site we stayed at. The warden was helpful and friendly, the toilets/showers were clean and warm, and the atmosphere good - there were some families with children, but there weren't kids crawling all over the place! Only downside was the price - non-members are welcome but pay quite a lot more.

This was our first time camping. The site managers have been here for about a year and were lovely, very helpful and couldn't do enough for us.
The pitch was great, very quiet camp site with some lovely walks and a great park for the children about 15 minutes walk away. The shop was limited, few tinned items, loads of lollies and local farm eggs, sausages bacon, cheese.etc. Toilets and showers were clean and pleasant to use. They are closed between 11 and 12.30 for cleaning. We will certainly return.

We visited Hayfield last year and booked again with some trepidation having encountered similar problems as others last year. However, we needn't have worried as the wardens are new and very welcoming despite a huge influx of new arrivals on Friday. We had a nice pitch on the left field.
Warning to all late Friday arrivals that you do need to book a table in the pubs as they stop serving at 9 and the chip shop closes at 9! Luckily the George hotel came to our rescue and served us at just after 9.00pm on Friday. The food was excellent and good value for money!
Recommend the walk up Lantern Pike - steep in parts and windy but excellent views.

This was our first visit to a Camping and Caravanning Club Site. We spent one night here. The wardens/ site managers were friendly and helpful. Toilets and showers were clean. There is a small shop on site which sells the basic essentials food wise and membership packs for the C&CC. The site does not take caravans but allows motorhomes and tents. There is a lovely walk along the river into Hayfield itself where you can find a fish and chip shop, off licence, post office and a selection of pubs. We had a very good meal in the George Hotel. There is no electric hook up provided on this site.

We have just returned from this site after just originally booking for the week-end we enjoyed it so much we decided to stay the week.Very well run site staff very friendly and kept very clean.There is a well stocked shop and is in easy walking distance from the village. The nearest pub is the Sportsman where they also look after you very
well and the food is good too.We certainly will be going back

Seven of us (3 adults + 4 children) have just spent a very pleasant weekend here. The location was fantastic for us as we could walk direct from the campsite to the hills (Kinder Scout). In fact I didn’t use the car till we departed on Sunday. Maybe since the earlier reviews the manager has been on an anger management course (or been replaced!) as he and his staff were very friendly and helpful. Upon arrival we were escorted to our pitch which was clearly marked, we camped in the upper of the two fields (left from the entrance) which appeared more pleasant than the lower field. The site was very busy but quiet at night. However in the morning our inconsiderate neighbours were very loud probably attempting to be heard above the sound of their radio! However our other neighbours were very pleasant and apparently camp here every weekend thought the summer! The showers, toilets and washing up facilities were clean and coped well with an almost fully populated site. The camp shop sells basics only including gas. We frequented the Sportsman pub on Saturday night which is a short walk away. The staff were very welcoming and nice to the children. We had reserved a table which is recommended as it gets busy on the weekends. They serve quite good food although slightly pricey (especially desserts) and there is a children’s menu. Overall Hayfield Campsite is an excellent tent only site in an idyllic location - we would definitely recommend it and visit again.

Our first camping trip of the year and our first time at Hayfield. We were a bit worried about the other reviews regarding the site managers (sounded like we were going to stay at colditz!) but it couldn't be further from the truth. From the minute we arrived to leaving the site he couldn't have been more helpful.
The camp was clean and tidy with excellent shower and toilet facilities - nice and warm for when you take a shower. The shop was stocked with all the basic's but a larger grocer's and shop are only a short walk away along the stream in Hayfield village.
There is a children's play area a few minutes walk away, which my kids loved.
The closest pub to the site is the Sportsman and again the manager there was very pleasant, came and sat with us for a chat, even though it was busy. There is a lovely beer garden to the rear and kids are welcome.
Had a great stay even though the weather could have been better and we plan to visit again soon.

Nice clean well ordered site, two level narrow fields. Plenty of good walking within easy reach e.g. Kinder Scout. A few hundred yards from site of the plaque commemorating the famous Mass Tresspass on Kinder of 1932. Hayfied, with a selection of pubs, chip shop, and grocery and a vegetable shop, is only 20 mins easy walk. The site is fairly basic with clean toilets & hot showers and a small camp shop. But be warned the site manager has a short fuse, ignorance of his rules is no excuse - he is quite the rudest site manager I have come across in 60 plus years of camping. That's pity because the site is good and worth a visit. His assistants/wife are fine.

Second visit to this site, we love it, its a great allrounder, excellent loo's very clean,they are closed at 11.00 for cleaning. The people running the site are very friendly and great with the kids. Rabbits running all over the site which delighted the children, views are stunning and near to nice walks. No play area but with a great park a few minutes walk down a pretty path that follows the stream it is not a problem. The park is great for all ages, skate boarding, adventure play area for the older ones and a big sandpit and picnic area for the little ones. Cricket played most weekends and two good pubs. Also down by the local newspaper shop is a little path that goes on to a couple of levels by the water...very pretty. Good for reading the Sunday papers.
I read the other reviews and was worried for our first visit but I can assure you it is my favourite site. No clubs, arcades or noise but the whole family enjoyed it. One tip...take some cream for the mozzy bites! Well it is by a stream and woods.

This site is quite small, but is very close to the village (15 min walk along the river) where there are loads of good places to eat. We had a very good meal in the Royal and an excellent Indian in the George. Both were very child friendly. We had a bit of a problem getting fed one night. First we tired the Sportman's bar which is very close to the campsite. We walked in at 8.50pm, and although they were still serving food they stopped taking orders at 8.45pm and would budge on that rule. The food is meant to be very good, but the landlord is a bit peculiar. We then walked in to Hayfield and tried the Packhorse which also has a good reputation for food. Unfortunately it was just after 9pm and they stopped taking orders at 9 and wouldn't serve us. The Indian however is open 'till late and was great.
We were very warmly welcomed by the site staff and had a few good conversations and a bit of laugh with them over the first couple of days. Then we discovered that they were actually the assistanmt managers and when the 'real' ones came back it was a different story. Again time was an issue. Woe betide anyone attempting to walk through the open door to the shop a minute before 9am!!! Also seem a little stressed by the computer booking system.
On the whole though a nice clean site. We probably won't go back for while as there was no play area for the kids. We knew that before we went, but didn't realise what a difference it makes to have one.
