 Just back from a stay over the (wet) May bank holiday weekend. We had booked late and had a sloping pitch, but it was quite adequate and has terrific views of the moor.
The facilities are very dated (according to another review an update is planned), but quite clean. When they are closed for cleaning, there is no alternative - so be warned!
A very very friendly site manager and team. We really felt welcome. Local pub was OK, but not as friendly as last time we were there (maybe this was a busier time). Good food shops, particularly at Okehampton (Waitrose), about seven miles away. Very little locally in terms of facilities, although the site has a basic shop and will order papers for you.
Recommended pub is a drive away (on the main road to Okehampton) but worth popping in. The Highwayman is one of the quirkiest pubs we have been in for a long long time. Very friendly, well worth a visit, very bizarre - but in a nice way.
We would return to this site for a short stay anytime.

We visited on the week before easter. Usual friendly C&CC welcome Steve and his crew really looked after us. The site was very quiet on arrival but filled up towards the Bank Holiday.T he planned update of the toilet and shower block didnot happen over 2006/2007 winter so blocks not that posh but everything works and is kept spotlessly clean. Update is planned before next season. Castle Inn in village serves good food but lacks warm welcome(we be strangers)Fox and Hounds on main road good food and warm welcome. Lots to do in the area.Cycle path from Oakhampton rail station to Lydford good day out including steam trains. Will be back for sure.

Stayed here for 3 nights, tidy, plenty of space between pitches. Toilets very clean, bit outdated, but excellent standard. Laundry room, MV service point and usual facilities.
Brilliant dog walk - round perimeter of a field, lovely views at the top of the field, sit and rest on a bench provided by someone in their memory.
Not impressed with the warden, who was not impressed that I had arrived before 12noon, 40 minutes early. I had no problem paying £5.00 early arrival fee, still can't see the problem, when you're on holiday do you clock watch? All in all good site, sell basic groceries and papers can be ordered daily.

We stayed at this site for 4 nights during August. The site is up to the camping and caravanning clubs usual high standards. The facilities were very clean and there was plenty of hot water. This site is in a fantastic location. Dartmoor is absolutely stunning. We have 2 young children (4 and 5) and there was no end of things for us to do locally.

Considerable work done on the site this year, installing access roads, hardstands and a motorhome service point. All things being equal the club hope to improve the facilities block in time for next year, but we'll have to wait and see whether it actually gets done in time. Current facilities are showing their age but were clean and functional. No disabled or parent/child facilities at the moment.
No children's play area but some space for games.
We had level hardstand with electric and some trees behind for shade which was very welcome in the heat. We did pick up a few insect bites on site, so if you are prone to them take insect repellent and bite cream!
Bus stop a short walk away at the War memorial in the village. Service is roughly hourly and will take you to Tavistock, Plymouth, Okehampton and Barnstaple without changing buses, and assorted other destinations if you change. Site reception has timetables. Rover tickets available if required.
Reception has tinned goods, bread, cheese, bacon, eggs, burgers, sausages, cakes. They will order newspapers for you. There is no shop in the village.
Village pub within walking distance does bar meals and has a restaurant.
Local attractions: Lydford Gorge, Lydford Castle, both within walking distance. Dartmoor for walking. Granite way cycle track (disused railway).
Will we go back? Quite possibly, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We staid for 2 nights and we loved it. We walked the Lydford Gorge. It's really very beautiful. We stood on a gravel pitch with EHU and had grass adjacent to sit on. The camping is very clean and the people are very friendly and helpful. They sell some groceries at the reception and you can order a paper for the next day. I think we will be back next year.

We stayed for 6 nights the site is quiet and well maintained with friendly helpfull staff as you would expect from the Camping and caravanning club. Toilet/facilities are spotless but unheated making for chilly showering first thing. Ideally placed for exploring Dartmoor. An 11mile off road cycle route is 5 mins cycle away from site (bike hire is available from the Lydford House Hotel adjacent to route)As is the lovely NT property Lydford Gorge. Tavistock is the closest town whis has excellent shops and markets. Would not hesitate to return here perhaps though in warmer weather as the site is amongst the high moor peaks and a little exposed to cold winds across the moor.
