 Please don't stay here! Because we love it and we can't always book on when we want to. Firstly the wardens are some of the friendliest you'll find; unlike so many they understand we're there to relax and leave work stresses behind - I know because they've told me so. Ok when its busy there could be more showers, but I've never waited very long.
The forest is great for walking or cycling and the Carriers Pub down the road is a great spot to sit out in their garden for a beer after a bike ride. We always look forward to going to Delamere.

We have stayed on this site a few times. It is a brilliant location for walking and cycling and to visit 'go ape' which is virtually next door. It is a nice walk to the forest visitor centre where there are exhibitions and a cafe.
You can get a train from the nearby station to Chester. The train noise is minimal and does not disturb the peace. The road noise is more noticeable and it is a very busy road.
Previous reviews have mentioned the situation of the loo blocks and bins. Not much can be done about the loo block but it would be very useful to have bins around the site as it is a bit of a trek.
Delamere Forest hold concerts in the forest each year which take place in a natural ampitheatre. You can take rugs and a picnic (see the Forestry Commission website). We have watched Elbow and M People. It is a brilliant site to stay in for watching the concerts just a 5 minute walk back when the concert ends. There is also a nice pub a short drive away that does good food.

Lovely welcoming site. Very clean and warm shower block, with showers toilets and sinks -accessed by a code.
This was our first outing in our motorhome and the very helpful site managers showed us how to 'hook up' for electric and how to get water on board and to dispose of waste water etc.
Reception has all the essential food supplies, and you can order newspapers. The site is quiet and well lit.
The area is lovely, lots of walks or cycle paths around and through Delamere forest. There is a visitors centre with maps of the area within a quarter of an hour walk and it has a cafe attached.
A great site for families or adults to escape to, but take the kids wellies -lots of glorious mud in the forest trails!

We have just enjoyed a great weekend at this site. The toilet and shower facilities were immaculate and more than adequate for the site. A pity that they aren't sited in the middle - it was a bit of a trek to get to them from where we were, but then we were given the choice of where we wanted to be! It was a bit of a nuisance needing a code to get in - our boys are 8 and 10, but needed an adult to go with them. I suppose this ensures that the facilities stay as clean as possible. The wardens were very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed the forest trails and our 2 boys had lots of fun playing at the edge of the forest near our van.
The railway line was just at the back of our van but the noise did not bother us at all.
There seems to be plenty to do in the surrounding area, but we were more than happy staying at the forest!

First visit to this site (2 adults, 2 childen 12 & 10) and reviews were mixed but we weren't disappointed. Pitches were good size (we had hardstanding, service pitch). Site was lovely and clean, showers / toilets spotless.
Shop adequate - opening times vary. All staff were helpful and friendly. Noise from road and railway line didn't disturb us. Convenience store under mile down the road (right out of site) and would recommend the Chinese restaurant that does takeaways (Left out of site & 5mins away).
Forest is huge, great for walking/cycling (bike hire available too) so many walks to choose from. Excellent site for base to explore the forest and Chester. Price was extremely good compared to some other non C&CC sites. Will be back soon.

Just come back from an extended weekend at this lovely place. When we arrived we was shown to our pitch by a friendly warden. The pitch was a large hard standing with electric which was more that perfect for our folding camper.
The site is placed on the very edge of the forest, to which there are two entrances into the forest from the two campsite gates.
The 'go ape' adventure rope climb could been seen from a five minute walk into the forest from the campsite gates.
The campsite toilets where situated next to the reception at the front of the site which were very clean and cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis, even the chemical disposal point was clean and more than adequate (as we all know these areas can be quite horrible).
There were plenty of fresh water taps scattered about the site and the waste / grey water disposal point was in the centre of the site. The only bins for the site where to the front entrance/exit gates of the site which is a bit of a trek if you are camping to the back edge of the site.
Event though there was a railway line next to the site the trains were not as loud as you would expect as the trains were either slowing to approach the station or where leaving the station at low speeds and the trains were few and far between. The road could be noisy at times on the other hand.
All in all, A nice campsite in a nice location.

Considering this site was only opened last year the toilet block is of very poor design. Far too small when the site is full. A very stale smell meets you as soon as you enter the building even immediately after it has been cleaned by the wardens, who by the way are very helpful but seem to be in a no-win situation with such badly designed buildings.
Good walking in the forest. Main road is very busy at times but nearby railway is hardly noticeable as trains travel at a very low speed.
Recycling bins available near the entrance but no other bins on site so can be a long distance from the far pitches.
Enjoyed our stay but would not return again unless I read a more positive updated review on your website.
Overall a very poor site considering it is so new. Many improvements needed.

Having read the previous reviews of this site I was somewhat reluctant to book it, however, I have to totally disagree with the other comments made. The site is on the edge of Delamere Forest which is absolutely stunning, you can walk, cycle and if you are feeling daring there is a Go Ape centre for children & adults over 12yrs. It is a bit like an assault course high up in the trees, looked very scary to me but good fun, its expensive @ £20 for kids and £25 for adults but as a one off I would certainly have a go. The forest has a visitors centre with cafe and lovely walks, our 3 & 4 yr old girls loved it.
The site is very clean and neatly set out, there are a selection of hardstanding pitches for awnings and grass with electric no awnings, the pitches are spread apart well. The toilets were immaculate, 4 ladies showers and always warm and clean, what more do you want? They are sited near the main entrance but the site is small so I don't understand why other campers have moaned? The site is only a year old and still establishing itself so I feel the other comments made are not justified, they have planted lots of trees and there are lovely flower pots dotted around, it is very clean and a credit to the wardens who run it.
The only thing I do agree with made by a previous camper is the lack of small play park, that would have made it perfect for families with small children, however, we didn't really miss one as the forest is an adventure in itself, but we did have excellent weather which also made it nice.
The only thing that woke us up was the sound of ducks in the morning from the Lake in the forest, we heard the odd aircraft noise, we were not near the road so that didn't affect us. It was our first time in the area and it is lovely, I would recommend this site and will certainly be returning as we had a wonderful weekend.

Great site Friendly wardens. Well spaced pitches. Very clean toilets. Some basics available at reception otherwise local shop about mile down the road. No children's play area (but my children kept entertained playing on the edge of the woods).
Great woodland walks from the site.
Only down side for us was the noise from the road and trains ( station next to the site)

Lovely clean site, spotless toilets and showers, helpful friendly wardens and nice large hardstandings. Forest walks adjacent and a train service to Chester and Manchester adjoining. However, having a motorhome, we rely on public transport or shops and attractions within walking distance to explore the locality. There were no village shops near nor a village to walk into. Luckily, we have friends who live near this site so they could take us around in their car to see the local attractions of which there are many. I would say that if you have a car with you, this site is central but I think that motorhome owners will be 'stuck on site' unless they want to go into Chester or Manchester on the train every day.

Just returned from the site. We were also a bit dissapointed with this site considering it is fairly new. But have got to say the site was very clean and tidy. Shame it didn't have a playground for the kids. Im sure they could have put one in somewhere on the site. We were pitched quite close to the entrance so we didn't have far to walk to the bins. As theres only one place to dispose the rubbish which is right next to the entrance. The road noise didn't bother us neither did the trains. Had a great cycle ride around the forest. All in all nice site. Don't think we will be back soon.

Just come back from our first stay at this site and to be honest we were really disappointed.
First the positives:
Great location (we were pitched right next to the forest and the kids loved it),
Very clean,
Extremely friendly staff.
Now the negatives:
Noisy on both sides due to railway and fast road,
No bins on site apart from main entrance,
No waste water points apart from main entrance, Inadequate toilet block in a daft position,
Absolutely no character whatsoever,
No trees! It's a forest site, where are the trees? It's as if they decided that the forest must stop on the edge of the site and that the site must be flat and featureless.
The toilet block was the worst thing. It's won Loo of the year awards so we were expecting good things but:
It is far too small for the size of the site (only 3 male loos),
It is cramped inside (uncomfortably so when washing your hands back to back with another man weeing!),
The shower floors are too flat meaning that the drying area (and your shoes) gets soaked,
There is no temp. Control on the showers,
The block is right at the entrance to a site that is basically a long rectangle (it's not far to walk really but we were pitched right at the end of the site and it's further than it needs to be - why not put it nearer the centre?
All of these are very minor gripes but the site is not cheap and, as it's so new, we had high hopes. If this was anywhere else but on the edge of a lovely forest it would have very little going fot it. As it is the forest is enough to bring us back - but not very often!

Just got back from here and had a really good trip, the wardens are really friendly and helpful, with the mention of the road and railway I wasn't expecting such a nice site, its surrounded by trees and well set out, the hardstanding pitches are really wide as there made for a caravan + awning and car, theres a good motorhome service point thats easy to drive over and fill up the water tank.
The toilets and showers were really nice and they didn't have the key code working when we were there so no problems with that.
The forest was great for cycling and walking but the track from the campsite was a bit rough for the first short bit, I decided to walk with my bike but still slipped on the mud and went head first into the bushes, but you can get round by the station so did that the next couple of days instead.
They have a plan of the forest you can buy for £2 in reception and also some other cycle rides maps that are free, there was also a booklet with all the attraction around chesire which was really good. Its worth a cycle or walk to Eddisbury farm shop, its not far and easy to get to with home made cider, liqures, jucies, preserves and a great little tea room!
It was easy to get the train to Chester, its a request stop, you just stick your arm out as the train comes into the station really slowly, and on the way back you just tell the ticket lady you want to get off at delamere and its no problem, they have the time table in reception.
We only noticed on the way out, in the village that theres a shop it looked a good size but we didn't use it this time, they sell basics at the campsite.
As this site is open all year well be going back soon!

Nice site in a nice edge of the forest setting.
First the road. We had some concerns about this. It is not that busy but vehicles to pass at high speed. The noise seemed an issue for the first couple of hours then we just didn't seem to notice it much. There was were also some planes flying over en-route to Manchester Airport but again you just notice the first few. The trains weren't a problem. Only about 1 an hour and were slow moving.
On the whole the site is flat and we were offered a choice of pitches.
Clean blocks. We didn't think the water was too hot for our 3 and 5 year olds.
Site is mainly for walkers as there isn't much in the immediate vicinity except the forest. But Chester is only a 30 minute train ride away and well worth a visit.
Would highly recommend a drive to the Anderton Boat Lift in nearby Northwich.
Our little boy had to be taken to A&E while we were here and the site staff were really helpful with directions and offering to call the hospital in advance for us.

Stayed for two nights in early September. We arrived later than planned but wardens met us quickly and told us we had the only pitch remaining.
Site has multiple mixed camping / tourer and caravan areas. Lots of EHU points and all sharing the main toilet and shower blocks. As previously mentioned keycode entry which seemed to be catching a few people out.Toilets and other facilities were spotless and the loo of the year award proudly displayed definitely seems to be valid for this site.
Barriers close at 11pm so make sure your not too late getting back.
In the surrounding area Chester surpassed our expectations and would definitely be somewhere we would go back to explore more of the historic buildings and sites they have open to the public. A very nice walk along the city wall and along the canals etc.
Would stay here again.
