There aren't a lot of reasons for visiting this site unless you're a climber (the awesome Traversella climbing area is a 40 minute walk away. Or a 15 minute drive and a 10 minute walk. Check the map) or a fisherman, or interested in archaeology, or simply want some peace and quiet. But those who don't visit are missing out on a wonderfully quiet and pretty site.
Reached via a long and winding road, the campsite is nestled near (but far enough away for child safety) an Alpine stream, and sheltered by trees. Pitches are grassy and large, and most have their own water tap.
The best thing about this site (apart from the Traversella climbing area) is the stream nearby. It's easy to reach a couple of deep pools where it's possible to swim (it is an Alpine river so use your common sense as it is very cold) but is also a beautiful place just to sit and take in the view.
There is also a covered climbing area on site in case it rains.
The nearest small supermarket is in the village of Traversella, a couple of kilometres away, but if you need any camping equipment or major shopping you'll need to go to Ivrea (huge Carrefour!) which is a good 40 minutes away.
The refuge at the Traversella climbing area is worth visiting for excellent plates of polenta, beer and beautiful views!
The owners of the campsite are lovely and very helpful (the wife speaks excellent English, the husband speaks a little), and run a small bar/bistro on site where they cook basic but delicious food (no menu - there is one standard three course meal!). They also sell maps, guides, etc.
Facilities are basic but fine. There are two toilet blocks - one at the far end of the campsite is very basic and used by the fishermen who have static caravans on site to gut their fish (they do clean up after themselves though!); the other toilet block is kept beautifully clean but is on two levels (women's toilet is upstairs) which can be a bit tricky if you have young children with you (also, no toilet roll and token needed for showers).
The site is well-maintained by the owners and kept very clean and tends to attract an Italian/German clientele of climbers and walkers, most of whom are fast asleep by 10pm! It is a bit pricey compared to similar sites, but what price do you put on peace, quiet and beauty?
