A delightful campsite, facilities, bar, restaurant - which we did not try, TV lounge activity cabin with free wifi, and a very busy pool with a waterslide. Access is along a single track road sign posted left before St Nectaire. Pitches are of a good size, we had some shade from the hot sun, it seemed that all pitches did have some shade. The town of St Nectaire has good restaurants, and shops. Lots of out door activities for all ages and sights are within easy reach of the campsite.
Would we go back - yes next year for a whole week.
We cannot comment on the children aspect, however they all seemed happy running/cycling around the site.
This site is just before the village coming from Champeix direction – the entry sign comes up suddenly on the left, then down a short but narrow lane. There is another entrance a little further along by the old garage if you miss the first one. It is quite a big site with neatly laid out and well maintained individually hedged pitches, mostly medium-to-large in size. Some may be a bit sloping. Filling your aquaroll can be a very tedious affair – water pressure/flow is very poor. Electricity is 2, 4 or 6 amps. There are many modern and smart-looking mobile home-chalets around the site. Toilet blocks are modern and excellent, with especially hot water in the showers. You may need to speak French at reception, depending on who is around, especially at the end of the season. There is free WIFI in the reception area, where there is also a small games room with (in Sept 2010) brand new pool and table football machines. There is a swimming pool, which looked slightly neglected very late in the season, but we didn’t use it. In high season there is a snack-bar and depot de pain. St Nectaire town is based around the thermal spa and casino – (the gambling sort, not the shopping sort!). It has a feeling of slightly faded glory – but may be very much more lively in high season. There are caves and volcanic-themed attractions right in the middle of the town, and an adventure (high ropes etc) park right behind the tourist office. Scenery in the surrounding area of Puy de Dome is amazing!
