We had booked a grass pitch (risking it that the ground would not become waterlogged & muddy; thankfully, it didn’t) We were actually allocated the biggest grass pitch, as it was right on the end near a concreted road, and had plenty of space for both the car & awning, though we decided in the end not to erect the awning.
There were some rain showers earlier in our stay & was quite breezy. When the weather had improved somewhat, there didn’t seem much point in the days that were left. The EHU point & water point were very close by.
The additional toilet/showers block was at the opposite end of the grass pitches, but we were told that block was closed (presumably because early in the season & the site wasn’t busy.
We walked to the main heated block nearer the entrance, containing a games room (didn’t use), utility room with 2 washing up sinks/drainers, washing machine & tumble dryer (didn’t use the laundry so can’t confirm cost) & then round the back was the entrance to the toilets & showers: one central door, then disabled toilet & shower room straight ahead, gents to the left & ladies to the right. There were 2 sinks, 2 toilet cubicles, 2 shower cubicles.
The showers were push- button, fixed nozzle, and apart from the first blast of cold water, became hot, though not scalding. Each burst of water lasted about 25 seconds, so better than some other sites.
There was a rack in the shower for toiletries, a shower curtain, and a pull-down stool for sitting on whilst changing, plus a rack of 6 hooks – very good. The light switch is automatic & on a timer, which will go off if you’ve been in there a while! The only negatives are the ineffectual hand dryers.
The other thing is the polite notice, either side of the main door, requesting that people shut the door behind them. We lost count of how many times other guests left that door open! It not only keeps the heat in, but keeps leaves, dust and the ducks out!
There were 2 Canada geese and numerous inquisitive mallard ducks on the site, and it was a joy to see them! We nicknamed some of them Gerald and Mavis, Sidney, Gordon, Gilbert, and Mo with the gimpy leg (we noticed he was limping & landed ungainly after flying in to land!)
It was a bit disappointing that we had to pay the new price of £30 per night, when we booked in Sept 2025 when it was £28 per night. We had asked about whether a deposit was required, and told no, just pay on arrival. We appreciate though, that costs have increased.
Both the manager John & Rod were very friendly & were always out, maintaining the site, cutting the grass (and there is a lot to cut!) The lakes are beautiful & the whole site is very peaceful. We struggled to find the correct WIFI connection at first, and it is a bit temperamental, but it was still useful that it was free.
There is a code for the barrier at the entrance, but the barrier goes up automatically when leaving the site.
Towards the weekend the site became busier, but that didn’t seem to affect how busy the toilet facilities became, thankfully. By the end of the weekend, most of the new arrivals had left.
A lovely site, and we look forward to coming here again in the future.
When we walked through the door of Kestrel Lodge, we were blown away by the modern and clean interior. It was even better than we expected.
The double doors that open onto the veranda made us feel like we were on the lake, the outside came in and we were at one with the view.
Everything is high spec and spotlessly clean. You could even smell the clean bedding and towels when you walked into the bedrooms.
It just so happened that the next guests had to cancel, so we booked an extra 3 days to extend our holiday straight away. We didn't want to go home, even then.
It is a very peaceful place, with lots of great fishing, and peace and quiet to read, relax and unwind.
We loved it so much that we booked a 7 day holiday for next year as soon as we got home.
We were very blessed with the weather, but even if it rained, it would still be an excellent place to stay.

Very helpful and friendly staff upon arrival, and the pitch we had was over looking the lake, beautiful, with stunning sunsets,
Well maintained, and clean facilities,
Just 20minutes walk to Harby and the Bottle and Glass pub, lovely food, a little more expensive than spoons, but the service, quality, and flavour is worth it,
Lincoln P&R about 15/20min away, Skegness about 1h 30min away, Lincolnshire Wolds railway 1h 15min drive,
Just had a fantastic relaxing week in the Mallard Lodge. I cannot praise it enough so clean and fresh with flowers to greet you.
Found a lovely spot for fishing which was ideal as I have walking problems but could be better with proper decks.
Really didn't want to leave such a calm place to visit. Had problem with tv and the nice owner went straight out and got new one hows that for service.
