Most Italians who have caravans leave them in one place and fit them up with garden sheds and wooden decking, so many Italian camp sites look pretty cluttered. Camping Monte Bianco caters more for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents - it's more like a French site than an Italian one.
You'll find it beside the S26 main road about 5km west of town of Aosta - but not too noisy as most of the through traffic goes on the motorway. It's a small site, levelled in terraces, the entrance turn in is a bit tight, but once you are in the pitches themselves are flat and spacious. The facilities are good and provide all you would expect.
Most people say Aosta town is worth a visit, though we were a bit underwhelmed by it. The really best scenery is on the south side of the S26 road where four long valleys lead up into the Gran Paradiso National Park. A good guide book will tell you about each of these valleys, but you'll need a day for each one of them if you want to see all four, as they are not interconnected at all by road. That's no hardship if you've got the time as this is a really comfortable little site, with shops, bars and restaurants close by.
If you know the French side of the Alps around Chamonix it's well worth coming through the tunnel to see the contrast on this side - and many a time we've left rain and low cloud behind on the French side and come through to blue sky and sunshine here.
