We managed to book The Fox tipi pretty much last minute for 4 nights. The Fox is a six person tipi and is one of eight tipis on this beautiful site. Each tipi comes with a fire hearth in the middle and futon beds (except for the honeymoon tipi which has a real posh proper bed!)
Access to the camp is easy. The site itself is set in the valley with wonderful scenery all around. We got glorious sunshine most of the time and the obligatory washout rainy day as well.
The tipis keep cool when the weather is hot, and cozy when the weather's cool. All that can be changed when you light up the fire in the tipi. We took a grill to BBQ food over the fire. Wonderful in the morning, and wonderful to take the edge off the evening cool temperatures.
The site is run by the owner. You won't meet a more wonderful host. She collects broken down campers, keeps the place very clean, and is up for a good chat. If you have kids, she'll let them help out with the chickens and sheep as well.
There's a few walks up the hills which are wonderful. If the rain gets the better of you, head over to Powis Castle about 45 mins away in the car. And, the Llanfair-Welshpool steam train is a highlight as well. Llanfair is about 25 mins drive away.
The Spar in the local village, Carno, has everything you need.
There's a very clean and modern shower block with one shower, a separate toilet cubicle, and another disabled access shower and toilet room. These provide very hot water and are always clean.
In all, we'll definitely be back again. Maybe next time without the kids so we can use the honeymoon tipi!
Me and 2 friends visited this in August last year for 2 nights wanting to experience tipi camping! The whole experience was unique and definitely not like any other camping experience. We were greeted by the friendly owner who demonstrated clear instructions of how to use the tipi. There are futons to sleep on abd cooking equipment provided. There is no on site shop however so its good to go prepared. In the village - which is walkable if you don't mind the huge hill on return, there is a good pub with excellent food. Not many activities in the immediate area - but los of lovely walks and animals to see. Clean well maintained showers and toilets. Well recommended for something a bit different - best bit was the fire you make inside the tipi!
