Stayed here for two nights as a base for visiting longleat safari park which is only 12 miles away. It was not our first choice but other sites were full. Nice flat field, not very big. Grass round tents needed cutting. The electric hook up is only for low voltage appliances 10 amp if you use too much you easily trip the system.
Only 2 toilets for each sex and 1 shower. Only had 1 sink though which is not really enough might have to queue to clean your teeth. No shop or playground. Just a small office which when it closed you have to ring a bell and sometimes owners dont come. This was the case when the loos ran out of loo roll at one point. Loos are reasonably clean but a bit rustic and so tiny the door is right in front of your face. Use of washing machine, microwave and fridge but freezer was full already even though site nearly empty. There are several tatty caravans in an enclosed area at one end of the site which they appeared to be lived in but they did not make much noise.
Just a couple of miles away is Bradford on Avon which is lovely and well worth a vist a great pub there is The Lock Inn on the canalside very quirky. Also Dundas Aquaduct and canal visitors centre is a few minutes away. There is a co op ABOUT 10 MINS AWAY. There is a nice farm shop and cafe 5 mins away which belongs to a member of the family. Bit expensive but also got rabbits and ducks and quite a pleasant way to spend an hour. They also do nice breakfasts and have a pleasant outdoor eating area.
All in not the best site we have been to but adequate for a short stay. The location is nice and the site is surrounded by nice countryside and a lot of sheep.
We chose this site from the Internet because of its closeness to Bath and looked good from the views on line. There is a bus service every half hour into Bath and Bradford, with a stop close to the site. The site itself is a large field with plenty of space between pitches. There are a number of down sides. The site is also used by residential caravans, the occupants of which monopolise the freezers provided for campers. As mentioned in other reviews the toilets and showers are not good, no privacy for a strip down wash, and not very clean either. All in all a bit of a disappointment.
When I read the reviews I wondered if it would be too basic for us and too far from the pub.
However the pub has a short cut, something one of the other reviewers may have overlooked, as it was less than 5 minutes walk to the walk. The road way would have been perhaps what the other reviewer had done
The toilet block was fairly basic, and had two showers and a toilet for females and assume the same for males. Thought we would have to queue but didn't. Pitches arent marked out.
Owner was helpful and gave us a map to look at.
Location is great for Bath and is about a mile from the canal. We took a walk to Bradford Upon avon, bit of a trek, but worthwhile.
The pub was great for meals and we ended up there for a 2nd night.
The only comment. Clean out and fill chickens water trough
We spent three nights here. If you want a basic site, this is fine. It is very basic, 2 loos + 1 shower per sex, concrete floors, rough painted breeze block.
These are kept as clean as is possible, they also are shared with, what appears to be a community of employees, which increased by at least 2 caravans during our short stay. The camping field has only 2 ehu points (non with rcd).
There are no designated pitches, which was great when we arrived, as we could park where we wanted & had loads of room for our awning. However, today people arrived and pitched their tents wherever they wanted.
One young couple in a tent woke up at 9am to find a family of 4 pitching their tent so close they had a problem getting into their vehicle! As the day progressed more & more families arrived and, we were told, many more were to come the next day.
Also the web site says that there is a pub, shop + farm shop all approx within 500 metres-only the co-op could be within this distance - at least double the rest!
The farm shop has lots of produce from the 3 family owned farms, but is very expensive. All in all, we just wanted a quite few days, had our own facilities, so it served our purpose.
I wouldn't like to stay here when it's full, as there were at least 10 children under 7 arrived today, the field is fairly small, when you take into account that it is also used by farm workers, + the farmer used it to transport sheep both on foot & via trailer. The grass is quite long as well.
