North Carr is a basic certificated site on a working farm. The farm is at the end of the road going to Hotham Carrs. There are no toilets or showers but this wasn't a problem for us. The owners are friendly and full of information on the local area without being overbearing. Free range eggs available at the farm, as is use of a washing machine if needed. The farmer is quite happy to put freezer blocks in a freezer if required. Horse riding is also available on the farm and there are some great bridle ways in the area.
The camping area is in a paddock at the front of the farm, next to a field with horses in it. It is flat and sheltered by hedging and a barn. The field has good drainage, it had rained a lot during the week prior to our arrival but we had no problem getting on/off the site. The owners did give us the option of being on a hard standing surface at the side of the barn if we wanted it but we preferred the paddock
There are some great walks in the area, footpaths & bridleways pass by the farm and our dog loved walking through the woods. There are some great walks along the Market Weighton canal towards North America or the Land of Nod in the opposite direction.
There is an abundance of wildlife in the area, we saw rabbits, hares, foxes, owls, swans/cygnets and a large variety of ducks/geese.
There are a lot of options if you enjoy fishing. Either on the canal, local rivers or private fishing ponds, day tickets may be required but are easily bought.
The site feels remote but there is a pub at Hotham (Hotham Arms) which serves food. There is a selection of shops/pubs at North & South Cave. If you need to visit a supermarket, there is a Morrisons supermarket at Brough, a Sainsburys at Hessle or Tesco at Market Weighton, all are a short drive away.
There is a leisure centre (with swimming baths) at South Hunsley School in Welton which is open for public use. Humber Bridge Park at Hessle and The Deep in Hull are nearby if you fancy a busier day out.
Great site if you fancy getting away from it all. We will be returning soon.
