We chose this site to explore an unknown to us part of Scotland and were pleased with it. It's in a scenic small valley just up the road from Sandyhills, however, you don't get any sea views here. Not that you can see the sea much anyway when the tide is out (which it always seemed to be). There are interesting walks along the beach, but watch out for the incoming tide.
There are a couple of problems - access is down quite a steep hill, but it's ok with care. The CWD is half way up the steep driveway quite a way from the site. Otherwise it's fine, the grass is cut and it's fairly level. We couldn't get a Sky signal though and couldn't work out why.
The rubbish is put into a big green container in the corner of the site, no recycling here. The price for the site with ehu is £10 per night, fair enough.
There are lots of horses at the farm; a piebald in the next field amused us. Not sure if riding is available, nothing to say so.
There is a bar at the holiday chalets down the road to Sandyhills, a small shop at Sandyhills, with more at Dalbeattie about 7 miles away which also has the nearest garage. Dumfries is about 20 miles away.
Would suggest accessing the site by turning onto the B road which is almost opposite a caravan site approaching Dalbeattie from Dumfries. Turn right at the fork in the road (signed Sandyhills), this is an easier route than using the A710.
