Initial impressions were good but sadly didn’t last. 1st night bitten horrifically by midges then on the Saturday there was an ice cream van parked on the CL site near to us with deck chairs out and it became extremely busy. Cars were parked right outside the caravan and my husband had to ask a man to move his car after he parked it up touching our A-frame. We would not have been able to move our car if we wished to go out due to it being blocked in. People were sat outside the caravan from the ice cream van and children were playing in the tree right behind the van).
It did feel like you were parked in someone’s garden whilst they had a party, no privacy whatsoever.
Have to take the toilet Cassette right past The cafe where people are eating which is not the most pleasant thing to do.
Nice for a bit of plane spotting as the site is on the flight path for Gamston airfield which may bother some people but didn’t really bother us.
On site ice cream parlour well worth a visit and was extremely busy due to the nice weather.
Easy to get to the site just off the A1. £15 per night with electric hook up so not too expensive but probably won’t return

Site in grounds of lovely cafe and tea rooms and farm shop specializing in ice cream. Easy to get to off A1 which was why we chose it. Site feels like it's in an overflow car park and in the owners grounds so felt exposed as the cafe is very busy(and very good serving food from 10am til 5. 30. ) and we were the only ones there. There is no CCC signage at entrance and in fact you only see it in the site as you're leaving, which is how we knew we were in the right place. Water and electrics reasonably handy but chemical waste disposal point is quite some distance away and you have to walk past the cafe(where people are outside eating) and through the car park. The waste unit sits high off the ground and over steps so all but the fittest would struggle to empty their toilet cassette. It is also very close to where people were eating. Personally I felt a bit awkward having to pass with our waste and waited till the shop was closed. Another downside was that the area reserved for camping was being used as a dog run by the owners (and maybe others)dogs so we had to negotiate dog poo. Not easy in the dark! That said, it is a great location and the owners were very friendly and laid back. At £12 a night it was good value. Sort out the dog poo and location of waste and would give 9/10

Really enjoyed our last two weekends at this pretty little site. And what a busy little place, with a cafe where we obtained a delicious home cooked meal. The ice creams are out of this world, no wonder people were queueing for them.
This is all balanced out by the tranquility of the site, with the horses sheep and cows nearby for company, not to mention two cheeky little dogs oh! and a larger one who would love to be friends, but my dog wouldn't allow this.
The nearby town of Retford has a very well kept park and nice shops, well worth a visit, Clumber Park is just over 4 miles away. Hope to call again on our way to Norfolk. Thank you staff at Thaymar. From JH.

Recently stayed here for two nights to break up a journey south. We wanted to attend the Robin Hood festival at Sherwood Forest which was great fun.
The owners are lovely and very helpful. The site is as a previous review stated like been on a large front lawns of the house, it was perfect for what we wanted, It is very peaceful and the fields on two sides have animals in.
My children loved been able to play near the caravan and the ice cream from the farm shop.
There is no washroom for the site but there is a toilet for the farm shop you are able to use in opening hours.
Electric is included and for £12 a night we will definitely be returning.

We stayed here for a short weekend with our children and it was lovely, very friendly staff and the place is beautiful, very clean toilets and shower and tent pitch was only 12pn with electric. The kids loved running round and seeing the chickens and meeting rusty the dog. We would highly recommend a visit here and will definetley be going back soon xxx

A site picked more or less at random from a list. All we wanted was a stop off on our journey from Edinburgh to Essex.
What a lovely find!
No-one else there, we parked the van on what looked like the lawn of the main house and spent a lovely undisturbed evening and night.
We paid around £10 including hook up and will certainly use this one again for a short stop over.

Had a lovely weekend at Thaymar. The owner couldn't be more helpful. The farm shop & cafe is fabulous, as is the wonderful Thaymar ice cream made on site. No facilities as such to review (albeit there is a loo in the farm shop when it is open). Water, EHU and ELSAN all available though. It is a very peaceful spot. Cows, horses and sheep in the field next to the pitch and hens near the farm shop - the children were thrilled.
Retford is a nice market town. Much of it is pedestrianised. The Saturday market looked good - although we arrived in town pretty late in the day and they were beginning to pack up.
We had a great weekend and will certainly visit again.
