Made Sommieres our turn round destination this holiday, we love the town and campsite.
The young couple who took over last year remembered us, they have put a lot of work in to improve the site. Not huge changes, but you could see that they have been working to tidy up the pitches, sanitary blocks, electrics, water supply. He was fitting out a leisure area with child play spaces and a small boulodrome when we were there.
The reception is open in the morning until noon, then closed until 5pm. However, there is no longer a barrier, so you can access the site, choose an empty pitch from the list at reception, and pay later. A good system.
It's a while since we were last here, so made an effort to return this year.
The campsite has very recently changed hands, and now belongs to a young couple who were doing their very best to get things into shape for the season, aided by her parents. The first night we were there we had the last available pitch, which had no EHU, but were able to change pitches the following day.
Little has changed on the site, the pitches could do with some TLC but the family were getting on with lots of jobs with great enthusiasm. There are several new safari tents available to rent now.
This campsite is so convenient, you can walk into the town centre or a supermarket in a few minutes, or to the river close by. There is a cycleway you can access from the opposite side of the town which follows an old railway route. A big market and brocante on Saturdays.
An update on my previous review. We chose to come back here as we had enjoyed our stay so much last time.
The renovation of the second sanitary block has been completed. I don't think the facilities are cleaned every day, though they weren't particularly dirty.
The pitches were a bit unloved, though not bad by any means, the site has a natural parkland setting. Pool was open this time, heated apparently, we didn't try it.
We stopped for a lunch break whilst passing by this town, thought it looked interesting, so checked into the municipal campsite, and ended up staying 3 nights.
The campsite is in the town centre, next to a large car park and the Stade. It is small and friendly, in a park type setting. The pitches are flat and grassy, and divided by hedges, with trees for shade.
The lady at reception was very friendly, and checked us in quickly, we were asked to choose our own pitch.
There was some work going on, I think they had only recently opened for the season, and were refurbishing one of the sanitary blocks. The other block had shared facilities, the toilets were slightly inadequate for the number of people on site. Some of the showers included wash basins as well. The water was nice and hot.
Washing up was round the back under cover. There was a disabled room, but it was kept locked. The facilities were cleaned the second day we were there, but not the third, which was Saturday, but were not dirty.
There is a swimming pool, which was closed, a small playground for children, a barbecue for campers use, and wifi at reception.
It is just a short walk into the town, which has a historic centre, plus shops. The river is nearby too. There is a supermarket a short walk away, and a larger one on the other side of the river.
The campsite is well situated for visiting the coast, also the attractions around Nimes and Montpellier.
We enjoyed our stay here, the price was moderate.
The Stade next door is used for bull baiting, the animals are not hurt by this. There were sessions on the Friday and Saturday early evenings, which we could hear from the site, but it wasn't too noisy or too long.
