Agree with previous reviews about facilities - clean but could be overstretched in main holiday season. All gravelled, but woodland areas nice to sit out in, with some picnic tables. Big field for games etc.
Excellent area for walks and visiting Siena (20-25 mins)and other well-known and beautiful places.
Bus from site is infrequent, but is not a regular, thoughout the day service. Parking in Siena expensive and difficult to find. Go early. Try area near Medici fortress/park. Some there is free, if you're lucky.
ACSI card. Free wifi near bar. Office open until quite late.
This is a nice little site despite having no real views of the lovely Tuscan countryside as it is surrounded by trees. The pitches are gravel and are shady and level. Water and electricity points are plentiful around the site. There are some static units near the top of the site but the majority are touring pitches. There is a very friendly bar and a shop but no restaurant facilities. However it is within walking distance (about 15mins) of the restaurants in the small town of Sovicilli. The site is excellent for visiting Siena with a bus service that actually stops inside of the site. As motorhome parking at Siena costs 20 euros this is a big plus for the campsite. The toilets and showers were of a good standard and clean with loo paper supplied but no toilet seats. The cubicles though were quite small with strange fold back doors. There is no dry area in the shower cubicles and clothing is best kept dry outside the door but despite this the showers were hot and mostly worked well. The site was dog friendly with some good walks for our dog both inside and out. We found a real mix of nationalities staying here, Dutch, German, Danes, English, French, and Spanish. We would certainly stay again.
Situated about 10 kms from Siena, this site offers a much more pleasant base from which to 'do' the region than the site in Siena itself (part of the same group).
Set just outside the pretty village of Sovicille, pitches are very generous in size, and well shaded by oak trees. All sites are gravel/stone based, which works very well, despite initial reservations.
The 'ablutions' block is split (male / female) and is maintained well. English toilets with paper supplied and the showers and wash basins are fine, without being ultra modern. Washing machine and washing up areas and a communal multi line drying area.
A BBQ area with a built unit is available for use.
There is a large area with picnic tables under the trees for general use; a huge play area for ball games etc and an undercover table tennis and table football marquee.
The outside bar/snack bar is attractive and is served from the small shop (basics only, though a good range of cheeses, salamis etc).
There is no pool here. Not that it bothered us, but if swimming is imperative, then this is not the site for you.
The owners are very friendly and manage a certain amount of english. Certainly enough for all campsite requirements!
It is a peaceful, friendly site, set in a lovely wooded area. Which in the high heat of summer, is a huge bonus. If you want the sun to lounge in. There's plenty of areas to find that, too!
The village is walkable (access via a footpath from the campsite) and offers a couple of bars, an interesting restaurant at the castle/hotel. Medium priced. Though we found the one at the bottom of the hill, on the main road, to be much better value and a fun atmosphere. There are other restaurants within a couple of kilometres.
There are shops in the village, including a small supermarket. But Siena offers the best value with bigger supermarkets.
The positioning of this site in Tuscany makes a pretty good base for visiting places of interest. We covered Siena (ten minutes), Florence (an hour), San Gimignano (half hour), Pisa (two hours) and lots of other hilltop towns in the area. There's a good ten days of things to do and see. Especially if you have a 'culture trail' in mind. Florence's Uffizi (Giotto, Botticelli et al), Academia (Michaelangelo's David) and Pitti Palace (Absolutely stunning interiors and ceilings)are 'must sees', though you might be artred out' if you do it all in one day! Siena is great to wander round. The cathedral and the old Council offices are a must.
There are two buses which serve directly into the campsite. For going to Siena. This could be a good option as it saves having to find parking in the City. Which can take a while!
Loved this site.
