We recently returned from a week long stay at Bush of Ewes campsite.
We enjoyed the great location, with many walks in the area and level, well-kept pitches clearly marked about 10x10m in size. Camping next to a field of animals was a bonus, and the dog walking off-lead area was a welcome addition. The site is well cared for and very tidy; the owners are keen to improve further, as evidenced by the recent installation of more EHUs.
However, there were a few areas where the site could be improved. The limited number of toilets and showers, even when not at full capacity, was a downside. The owners mentioned plans to increase the number. Additionally, it was off-putting to see so many other campers put on pitches beside us when so much of the rest of the site was left fallow. This could have meant we could have been spread out and had less noise from other campers (particularly those with children).
Despite these minor issues Bush of Ewes is a good campsite. We would stay again, the owners are very nice people. One tip - be sure to use a (free) fire pit and buy the wood from the site (£8 sack); you will probably get two evenings from one sack. It burns really well and is quality firewood. Also, don’t forget to walk through the field and go down to the waterside.
We stopped here one night on a motorbike camping trip. We had the place to ourselves for the most part. We hadn't booked and were met by the owner who showed us where things were then left us to it, very laid back.
The site has 2 toilets and a shower, very basic but more than adequate for us and spotlessly clean.
The view up the valley to the hills is beautiful, campers are permitted to walk across the fields and there are sheep,
Goats and chickens, eggs are for sale.
It was £15 for the one night, really good value and we'll definitely stop over when we're passing through the area again.
Do have your midge repellent though, when the wind dropped and soon came out. via mobile
This site has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, it was our second visit this year,
The owners are so helpful and friendly it made our stays a pleasure.
The facilities are basic (but very clean, )perhaps because of this the site is not crowded, so offers plenty of space and privacy, which is an absolute bonus.
Camp fires are permitted, dogs are allowed and children can play, pretty much a perfect weekend. The area is fantastic for walking,
The campsite itself has a wonderfully dramatic hilly backdrop and a babbling brook at the border of the field,
