45 minutes from home and this little CL was just a little gem found for those of us who are in the main self sufficient. On arrival, Matthew met us, he was very welcoming and highlighted the Nature Reserve close by for dog walks and also made us aware of other walks in the area. He then left us to it after telling us to pitch where we wanted. Hardstanding and grass pitches available, typical winter ground underfoot but firm enough and not holding any water. We had the site to ourselves so doggy was a allowed some freedom when leaving the MH for our walk and loved rolling around in the grass.
Site itself along with house and holiday cottages is for sale but owners are still looking after it well. Access was very easy and views from pitch were lovely with open fields, limestone walls and herds of Deer at dusk. Very little noise apart from bird song and the odd passing car. True night darkness also with no lights on site, torches necessary for the last dog walk of the day. Rubbish and recycling point at entrance onto site, ehu available. Water is via a tap at the gate and chemical waste in the next field but readily accessible.
At £15 per night, we judged this site as one of our visit again sites, close to home and lots of walks in the area.
We received a very warm welcome including details of local nature reserves. This gently sloping site has views over fields with woodland beyond - a pleasant surprise after driving through more heavily wooded areas. The toilet was prettily done out with pictures - we did not try the shower but it looked fine and both were very clean. The free range eggs are delicious. We enjoyed the variety of birds strolling around the farm buildings - assorted hens, geese, doves and an enclosure with runner ducks, and I was impressed that none of the birds (not even the rooster) was in the least aggressive towards myself or my dog.
The only thing missing was a dog exercise area - dogs on leads on the site, and the nearest walk ( a nature reserve) sadly had access via a stile which we could not get over. Otherwise a very good site and one we will return to.
This touring site offers spectacular views towards the Lake District and Morecambe Bay, with Blackpool Tower also in the distance, yet located just over 3 miles from Junctions 34 and 35 of the M6 motorway. Visitors will find just 10 electric pitches for motorhomes and touring caravans, with access to the superfast Wifi, toilets with sinks, a shower room and fresh water taps. Dogs are allowed and there is a designated field for walks.
The local village of Halton is a mile away from the site, offering a convenience store, newsagent, pharmacy, post office and fish and chip shop. The market town of Carnforth is 3 miles away, with its train station (featured in the 1945 film Brief Encounter) and supermarkets. The seaside resort of Morecambe is within 5 miles and the Lake District is only 35-minutes drive. Find out more here
Stayed for 1 night and wished it could have been more.
The 5 pitches are level and hard standing. Access is fine. For £12. 00 a night you get a EHU, loo and a separate shower. Both are spotlessly clean, if a little dated. The owner is helpful and informative. Fresh eggs are sold which are a great start to the day.
This is a C/L and it does what it says on the tin!
Stunning views from the site, you can see deer playing, and all sorts of other wildlife, including birds of prey. It is £12.00/night, not £10.00, and if you go when it is cold, you will pay an additional £1.00 for a shower, in a freezing cold un-heated shower block. If someone is having a shower and you use the toilet, there is no basin to wash your hands. The stand pipe for water was frozen solid most of the time, due to inadequate insulation, but water is available from near the shower. However the track up to the shower is on a steep incline. You have to negotiate the same incline to empty grey waste in a barn in a grate in the middle of a doorway, which is hard work, which is why I paid the extra for the shower, and there is no water nearby to rinse the waste hog. The chemical disposal point is a hole in the middle of a duck pen, with no water available to rinse your toilet cassette. I did smile when the ducks came to watch what I was doing!
We spent a lot of money last year upgrading to a van with grade 3 insulation, Alde central heating, and a 4x4 tug to drag it to winter breaks, but the site is only 10Amp hook up, and this meant that trying to run the heating on 2Kw, and the refrigerator too, tripped the fuse at the pole.
The site owners were fantastic, and let us keep hold of a key to the post, but we put heating on 1Kw, and burned a lot of gas as it went down to - 5 degrees at night, and didn't go above 2 degrees on most of the days. I have paid the same for CL's with 16 Amp and full service pitches, if a site is open all year, the shower blocks require heat, and the hook up should be fit to keep your van warm, without using your gas.
On a lighter note, the pitches are level side to side, and blocks are not required fore or aft. The site is also very well drained. Although other sites in the area recycle, this one does not. Finally, if you go on pitch 6, which we did because of the views, you will either need two hook up leads, or borrow a long one from the site owners, as the power point is at the other side of the campsite. We enjoyed our stay in the area, and are looking to return in May, but not to this site.
