We really loved staying at this site. The owners and staff made us feel very welcome. On arrival they showed us our pitch they had reserved for us, but also gave us a choice of others if we preferred. The pitch was really good size, but as our tent is HUGE, they allowed us to store our trailer at the back of the playing field to give us more space.
A mix of nationalities, even a few other English visitors. Everybody so welcoming. Lots of the guests return each year. An older French man taught us the proper rules of boules! Most visitors used the site as a stop off, whereas we spent a full two weeks on the site.
Bread delivery service was really handy, but was cheaper if you walked to the bakers which was about a 20 min trip (walking). Very helpful in reception with Tourist information, maps and leaflets. The main shops were about a 10 min drive away.
The lake was lovely was swimming with direct access to the lake. There is no beach area but a grass area to lay/sit. We paid for a permit to use our canoe in the lake. Around the lake is property, so not many places to stop around the lake when out on the canoe. There are a couple of public beaches around the lake. One next door to the beach you had to pay for, but they had different things to hire and a restaurant.
There is a games room, table tennis, boules, volley ball, large field and some small weekend entertainment. The toilets and showers etc were older but adequate. They were cleaned every morning, but could have been done again later in the day (There were some really dirty people on the site so you had to check the toilets before using which one to use). Hot showers too. Washing machine available which we didn't use.
The pitches were very open whereas we would have preferred some more privacy with more hedges/bushes/tress.
We love this site! We have used it twice on our travels (staying a night or so) both times just turning up on spec, but being made most welcome by the friendly, helpful French family who own it. This time, they even insisted they mow the pitch before we set up and checked we were happy with our view of the lake. The owner also came back to check whether we wanted bread ordered for the following morning, as we had arrived late in the day.
Lac Paladru is a great lake for swimming in, set in rolling hills (rather than dramatic mountains). The site itself has direct access to the lake for swimming and boating and has a great mix of nationalities on site, all seemingly eager to socialise and chat on both of our separate visits. The only minor downside is that you do need to drive to get to the town & shops.
There was a local band on the site as evening entertainment on our previous visit, well received by all the campers.
Facilities are older, but clean & perfectly adequate. Highly recommend this site as a stop-over en-route to Grenoble & further south.
