The site sits just outside Huntingdon, in a lovely village called Godmanchester. The site is flat and grassy and surrounded by shelter providing trees. Unfortunately the main A14 runs across the back of the site, which can be a bit noisy, you may be woken up rather earlier than you'd hoped. (Still that's what camping is all about isn't it!!?!) Despite this the whole site still manages to have a quiet country feel to it!
The owner of this site was friendly, and very kind. We had forgotten the torch (should have used the checklist!) and we were lent a gas lamp, complete with gas, which made us feel very welcome.
The toilet and shower block were well kept and clean, with hairdrying, and laundry facilities. Unfortunately the showers are 'pay as you go' so don't forget your 20 pence pieces!!! The site shop sells a variety of groceries and camping equipment, but realistically you will probably use the shop just down the road.
Surroundings:
A great pub, the Black Bull, is just beyond the entrance of the site, and serves a huge menu of excellent meals to hungry campers. 3 minutes walk into the village takes you to a 7-11 type store which sells everything from newspapers, to alcohol to bread, to sewing kits. This proved very handy for us for stocking up on BBQ food and drink. Just further down into the village is a Chinese restaurant overlooking the river, and an Indian. There is another Grocers, and a less attractive pub depending on your tastes (loud music, and young clientele). If you venture into Huntingdon there are a number of Indian Restaurants, but not a lot else. We'd recommend staying in the village.
Out and about, there is plenty to do, Godmanchester being situated in an ideal position to take advantage of lots of attractions (including of course Cambridge).
