For views this site is hard to beat, in fact for views this is the best site we've ever stayed on! As others have said it's right on the beach, which is very wide and has lovely soft, white talcum powder sand.
A bit tricky for swimming maybe as the tide does go out a very long way. We chose a pitch on the front row which is a stones throw from the beach.
We stayed on pitch no. 6. I would say the best pitches for views, sun and quietness are front row pitches 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. The far end pitches on the eastern side have some trees so would be better in hot whether.
We stayed in May so out of the main season and some of the facilities weren't open.
Usefully, there is a bread vending machine outside the reception area which also has croissants and pain au chocolate.
The toilet and shower blocks were clean and adequate and have dishwashing and clothes washing sinks. We did a bit of hand-washing - no hot water though and no plugs, so need to bring your own.
Locquirec village can be accessed at lower tides along the beach or by road - 20 minutes walk minimum.
There are a couple of bars and restaurants with nice views over the harbour,
Fantastic location on flat land at the head of sandy beach. Good to go out of season, as then you can choose a pitch which looks straight out to sea. The young man in the office was friendly, helpful and spoke good English. It was possible to order croissants and or bread for collection the following morning. Toilet and shower block was clean, but make sure you take your own toilet paper - none provided.
Entrance to the site is by using a code to unlock a barrier, so you have to arrive when the office is open to access your pitch on the first night of your stay. The barrier cannot be opened between 11 at night and 7 in the morning to prevent people driving round the site at unsociable hours.
It's possible to walk along the beach and over the rocks to the village, except when the tide is highest. Out of season, the restaurants are not open, except for the local hotel, which was good, if fairly expensive. The bar in Locquirec closed at 8pm and had little to offer in the way of food. There is a take-out pizzeria at the entrance to the campsite, and there are food shops in Locquirec, so you can self cater if you wish.
Fantastic location just a few feet from the ocean with a long sandy beach perfect for cockling at low tide. A municipal site with clean and efficient sanitary facilities. Easy 20 min walk into the village for restaurants but limited shops. Quiet and calm site with excellent friendly reception and 3 for 2 night off peak offer. A great find and will return
This was a lovely sight, right next door to the beach which was sandy. The people in reception was very helpful. The site was long and thin between the beach and the main road which wasn't very busy. All the pitches were of a good size and marked by individual bushes. The toilet block was clean. The on-site Restaurant served drinks and snacks which could be taken outside overlooking the fantastic scenery of the bay. Some of the recreational facilities were not available when we were there but this did not detract from the overall site.
There is a bus stop just outside the entrance. In One direction was Lannion which has a large market on Thursday. It is a small town with plenty of restaurants and other attractions. In the other direction is Morlaix which we found much more picturesque and interesting, with a large viaduct crossing over the valley above the town. Keep a check on bus times as the last bus is early in the evening.
Locquierec itself is a small village and worthy of the quite lengthy walk. It has a couple of bars and restaurants but be careful when you go as opening times can be patchy.
The Municipal camp site, Camping Du Fond De La Baie is situated across the head of a safe wide sandy bay. Access to the site is down a rather steep tarmacadam road off the main road immediately followed by a sharp right turn through the car park which is outside the barrier. On leaving the site with the caravan in tow, one has to go around the cars in the car park and care is needed. The town,
The whole site is flat with a number of pitches at the far end being in a shaded elevated position at the back of the site. Locquirec is on a promontory, an easy 1. 5kms walk away and can be accessed via a path running from the site eventually meeting up with the road (and pavement. ) In that pretty harboured village is a baker, restaurants, newsagent and grocer.
The whole bay empties at low tide allowing anyone to gather cockles and other shellfish.
The site has 235 pitches and there are also 14 chalets for rental. The site operates a tariff system that penalises seasonal caravan users so it has not been spoilt by long term pitchers of decrepit caravans.
When we arrived we were warmly greeted by the enthusiastic female manager who spoke very good English. She allowed us to choose our pitch and we gained access to a large pitch (the pitches are in the main, very generous), right next to a low bank that was the only thing between it and the beach. What we gained in view, we lost in sleep as, although the tide creeps in, at it's final stages, the waves start to crash on the shore. There's nothing dangerous but it can be noisy at 3 O'clock in the morning!
The previously mentioned bank is also the official route, right through the site, for the coastal footpath that goes right around Brittany, so, although the site is barriered, security isn't perfect. Having said that, the type of persons who were using the footpath were hardly the type to carry off your belongings, but it was noted.
Talking of the barrier, while we were there the 'Salle De Animations' (Meeting Room) was used on two occasions by outside groups who were local people celebrating various things. As a result it was noted that the barrier spent more time in the up position than performing it's function, again a negative if you are security conscious.
At the time of our visit, a couple of the toilet/shower blocks were closed (the season hadn't really started) but of the ones that were open, we always found them clean and didn't have to queue. As usual there were no seats on the toilets and no paper. There were no squeegees on site however to dry off the showers after use. We found the blocks rather dark and dingy because there were no roof windows fitted and the automatic lighting system wasn't brilliant.
In season (July August) there is a bar/cafe on site where bread can be bought. There is also an animation team. Kayaks can also be hired.
This site is open all year and therefore is a good choice alternative for those using the Roscoff ferry to Plymouth and Ireland.
While there we were told that arrangements are in hand for the site to join the 'Camping Cheques' scheme for next year (2014)
All in all a very good find and we would stay again if in the ares. They've lost two stars because of the rather dark toilet block and the lack of security but other than that, no complaints.
