What a find! After a bit of a struggle to find somewhere in the Brecons that had availability and allowed dogs last minute on a bank holiday weekend, we discovered Powys Pods, just north of Hay-on-Wye and about 40 mins drive from Brecon and the national park.
This is a new 'glampsite' and at the moment has three wooden pods - small, medium and large. The toilet block is two, soon to be three, pods side by side with toilet, shower and/or washing facilities. There is an outside covered area with two sinks for washing and food preparation with lovely views over the hills. There is also a fire pit just below the pods that anyone can use. Everything is really thoughtfully laid out to make the most of the views.
We had the family pod, being two adults, one 12 year old and a black lab. Even with three camp beds and a dog bed, there was still ample room for electric fridge and other camping 'stuff'. A heater was provided if you needed it and each pod had a couple of electricity points.
The setting is perfect if you're looking for somewhere very peaceful with lovely views and walks close by. It was so nice to find a site that actually welcomed dogs and being a working farm there were other dogs around and about. I must mention the collie puppies that we were introduced to - 2 weeks old, mostly with eyes still shut and just adorable.
We specifically wanted somewhere close to the Brecon Beacons for some serious walking and hill climbing, so this was ideal. This was our first time 'glamping' and actually it was so nice not to have to spend time sorting out a tent as well as everything else!
One word of warning, some of the roads leading to the site are single track and high hedged so you can't see oncoming vehicles at all.
We really can't fault this site at and we hope to visit again soon. If you're looking for somewhere rural, quiet (other than sheep and lambs bleating!), this site is definitely worth a visit.
