We loved this place! So close to Brighton and really well connected by bus. The setting is stunning and for a campsite that doesn't advertise itself as 'glamping', we found the facilities great. Besides the eco shower and compost toilets on site, there was a toilet and shower block with working power points just a short walk through the farmyard.
I would highly recommend taking advantage of the breakfast delivery. We had breakfast baps, tea, coffee and orange juice delivered right to our tent. And very reasonably priced. That, and the amazing view across the valley, was a pretty good thing to wake up to.
We went to the campsite as a hen group, which incidentally was alongside another hen and stag do so would not be great if you wanted a quiet weekend. Although the experience wasn't awful, I felt it was very expensive for what we got. Essentially you are staying in the middle of an industrial farm, using portaloos, and sleeping on air beds(two of which deflated). When we've been glamping before the whole point is that you get a bed. The toilets are up a really steep hill, where there are two Eco toilets that were not very clean or you go to the portaloo which is at the entrance. There is abandoned cars all around the farm, it's scruffy and not particularly pretty apart from the field we were in. The owners were very nice and have us all lifts from our cars to the bell tents, but really I feel you'd be disappointed if you are like us, expecting an glamping experience.
We stayed at wombell campsite in august in one of there B&B bell tent packages. Charlotte greeted as at reception, loaded our luggage on the quad bike and escorted us to our Bell tent.
The tent was beautiful, fab bedding, incredibly comfy bed, so peaceful. The fire pit was just the cherry on the weekend, my husband loved making fire and the bonus was he wanted to do 'man cooking'. The breakfast delivered to the tent was a god send, generous portions and all farm produce and local supplier for the tea and coffee.
The toilets and shower are clean, the powder table has seating mirrors plugs for hair dryers/straighteners. They even supply toothpaste, sanitary bits and bobs first aid kits etc…
We watched Kestrels hunting 15 metres from our tent, and walked from our tent into Lewes over the downs and then caught the train back into Falmer station and walked back through the fields to our tent. And a BBQ was waiting for us on return from the farmers wife.
Really this campsite was a find, we've booked in for our anniversary in 2014….
