This is one of very few campsites in France (and the only naturist one) that we will definitely never return to. Usually that would be because the facilities are poor. In this case the facilities are reasonably good - the Flemish couple who took over a run-down site in 2015 have clearly put a lot of work and investment into improvements. It's a pleasant area and the toilets and showers are new and clean. There is a large (though unheated and uncovered) swimming pool, a small free sauna, and free (though intermittent) wifi. The problem is not with the site but with the way it is run.
The very professional website describes it as 'a place where you are free'. In fact it is a place to be regimented and micro-managed. Other campers we talked to had come to the same conclusion. They used different words - authoritarian, controlling, etc but the idea's the same. If those sound like individual gripes, I'll give some factual examples.
The first is harmless, even amusing: the great number of signs. Besides every possible 'shoes off, lights off, use the loo brush, wash your hands etc' I think this is a new one: to dry yourself within the shower cubical - presumably so you don't drip outside.
But the next is annoying and seriously inconvenient. Apart from a small area of pitches of level mown grass (booked for the summer by regular clients and effectively unavailable, even when unoccupied) the majority are on sloping, unmown fields. Some pitches are terraced, but most slope at about 1 in 10. Nevertheless the management insist all caravans and motorhomes point directly up or down the slope, not across it. This leads predictably to awnings not reaching the ground, absorption fridges too tilted to work, and wheels jacked up on piles of wood to try to get level. The reason given is that units would otherwise 'spoil the view'.
At its worst, the management's insensitivity becomes almost callous. An acquaintance of ours arrived at the site ahead of us. The gentleman qualifies for a Disabled badge for his car and walks haltingly with a stick. We found he had been put on very furthest pitch at the top of the hill, 300m from the pool, reception and car-park (cars are not permitted on site), even though there was unoccupied space at the bottom. The gentleman is quiet, unassuming and deaf. When I mentioned to the site that this situation was painful to see, the response was that he could have complained but didn't. Understandably, he simply left.
(The following note I include only in case other reviewers have the same experience. No doubt it was an honest mistake but the bill, until we challenged it, was for one more night than we had actually stayed. )
