Very friendly. It is a basic site with basic facilities. It was hard to guess when the toilet / shower block was last cleaned but I would say at least a month had passed.
Good location between the coast and Canterbury.
There is a spar nearby and as well as the Royal Oak, another pub serving food 100yds down the road.
If you are just looking for somewhere to bed down and do not mind a bit of grime then it is fine. If you are looking for quaint and idyllic then keep looking.
In short - take your flip flops for the showers and plan a full itinerary to keep out and about because the area is lovely.
We visited (4 adults and 2 children) this site because of some of the earlier reviews, and the fact that there was a UKCampsite.co.uk Meet being held there soon. The other reason is having seen the good comments regarding the food, we'd eat at the pub instead of cooking. On arrival we were a bit disheartened by the appearance of the place, it certainly does needs tidying and tlc, trimming back the hedgerows, removal of dogs mess etc. There were also a few abandoned vehicles and an old van parked in the field which made it look a bit like a breakers yard. It didn't look like the kind of idyllic place we'd imagined. The statics seemed to be lived in, so it didn't feel as if we were among other 'campers'. The 'facilities' are on the grim side, and although it looked as if they'd had a recent coat of paint, it didn't distract from the battered doors without locks, and general appearance of being worn out. That said, the gents shower unit looked quite new, and although the actual shower itself was shabby, at least we had a good stream of nice hot water. However, a big big plus, the people in the pub, owners and locals, were absolutely superb, and so was the food. We ate there for 3 nights, and every meal tasted excellent and was good value. The pub was quite smoky (but that'll all change soon anyway), but we were always made welcome, and the service couldn't have been better. Everyone was charming and welcoming, and over the course of the weekend, we must have chatted with everyone in the village, even if they were bemused by our choice of place for camping! I'm not sure the that the best way of describing this place is as a campsite, but more of a 'pub with some land out the back behind some houses where you can camp'. If the toilet/shower block was completely overhauled, and a just bit more effort in tidying the place up, then it would be great because it's in a good location, with a good choice of family attractions to visit, and a well stocked camping centre within a couple of miles.
The site looked very good on its web site but on arrival we were very disappointed. The grass had been cut but a lot of cuttings were left to lie. The toilet block was very tired and not clean, we were not willing to use them. This site is being left to run down, a little TLC would restore the place to what the locals said was very good.
Although the campsite had real potential, the blocked toilet and intermittent electrical hook up spoilt the weekend break. Noise until 4am and then again at 7.30am from static caravans didn't suite us as a touring family. The Pub was great and although there was live music on two evenings this was not heard on the site at all. Food was cheap and wholesome , and the surrounding area was lovely.
Set in 500 acres of beautiful, rolling Kent countryside. The Oast village on site is the World's largest Oast house collection and makes for a spectacular backdrop. Grass and hardstanding pitches for caravans, tents and motorhomes with electric option. Modern toilets and showers and multiple washing up facilities.
Small shop onsite and pub/restaurant at the entrance. The River Medway flows through the site, providing idyllic waterside pitches. Make the most of the location and try your hand at canoeing or fishing or simply sit back, unwind and enjoy wildlife spotting. Five minutes' drive from Paddock Wood station and trains to London Find out more here
A very quiet campsite suitable for stopping off to visit the area. The site is behind a small friendly pub (which sells very reasonably priced meals and snacks) and is roughly half given to static caravans, most of which were unoccupied when we were there. The field opens out at the bottom for caravans and tents, of which there were about four so it really is very quiet, even in August (probably because it rained continuously while we were there!).
The toilet block was very clean and always available, although the shower was a bit fiddly to get the water temperature right.
There is a kids play area at the front of the pub but no play facilities in the actual camping field, so this may not suit campers with younger children as you would not be able to keep an eye on them.
Great surrounding area with Wildwood, Canterbury city centre and Howletts all quite close by. There's another pub - The Albion - right next door which does lovely meals.
August 2005 Great little site situated behind a great pub which offered cheap quality meals run by a friendly family. The site itself is very basic but unlike most sites it was very quiet. My 7 yr old daughter loved the site as it had a adventure playground, bouncy castle and aviary to the front of the pub and a giant boot and tree to play on the field. Toilets seemed clean enough and had free hot water and had one shower per toilet block. However this site had no facilties for washing dishes and had no chemical toilet disposal facilites.

june2002 Small site with good basic amenities very helpfull owners & a great little pub. A handful of static vans & several tourers in storage spoil the view but none the less a good base site.
