 Lovely location, incredibly peaceful, but very basic and rather scruffy
We stayed here because we wanted somewhere green and peaceful close to Barnstaple with showers and laundry, and in that respect Crossways really delivers. There was only one other unit while we were there, so it was wonderfully quiet.
The best surprise was discovering a lovely walk directly from the site along the old railway trackbed, through woodland and open meadow and a pond. Good job I'm inquisitive or we'd have had to make do with the fenced dog walk or drive as the roads are busy with no pavement.
The wash block is, as other reviews have said, rather reminiscent of Prisoner: Cell Block H. The showers were actually perfectly good though — hot water and decent pressure — and the facilities were reasonably clean.
The ground immediately outside the facilities was quite mossy and slippery, and I actually slipped there. There was also a big motorbike parked directly in front of the laundry/pot-wash room door throughout our stay, which made access rather awkward.
There were 3 older seasonal/long-term caravans tucked away in the top corner of the site. They were empty during our stay and the grass around them was quite overgrown. There were also a few touring caravans grouped together near the facilities which appeared to be occupied more permanently. They weren't really an issue, but contributed to the slightly run-down feel.
Washing machine and dryer take tokens from reception, £5 for a load.
I put 4 tokens in the tumble dryer before I realised it didn't work, Mrs Manager was off out to get her nails done but told Mr Manager to put it on "free" until she came back.
It still didn't work and I noticed that the fuse & cover were missing from the plug. He replaced it with the washing machine one and I dried my washing.
Before leaving I asked to change my left over tokens back to cash. I was left standing in the rain for 20 minutes while Mrs Manager shut the reception door to finish a phone call, then she asked how much "I would like to contribute " for using the dryer.
I reminded her that I had put tokens in and it didn't work. She replied that she'd checked and there were no tokens in it - calling me a liar. Rude!

This is has reopened under new management, and is once again taking touring caravan, and camping bookings. If you know that this situation has changed in the future, please could you let us know. Many thanks

Absolutely beautiful place.
Great big field surrounded by tall trees.
Lovely owners that obviously look after the facilities which are very correct and very clean.
Also the price is cheap, considering the proximity to Barnstable and what is on offer.
We will definitely come back

Been coming here for years and it has improved every year and has never failed to disappoint me. A large spacious field which is great for children to run around and not overcrowded which is even better. Owners are lovely and are happy to chat to you. Showers and toilets where kept spotless and bins emptied everyday. The price is great for what you get to. Is in great distance to a lot of attractions but is a fair walk to local shop. Would need a car. Will definitely keep coming back. Thanks for a great time.
