We camped here for ten days in mid-August and were quite disappointed in this site. The toilet facilities were very clean (despite the smell). The reception staff were very nice.
Internet access is available and we had a nice meal in the restaurant on site. It's ideally situated for visiting the surrounding beaches and villages and is just a short drive from Cherbourg. And that's where the positives end! Now for the negatives:-
The toilets absolutely stink. They are clean but they smell dreadful.
There are no toilet seats on the toilets. Just hard, cold porcelain. I gather that this is the 'norm' on a lot of French campsites?
You are given a single key fob per family to gain entry to the toilet/washing block. This key fob also activates the showers. We were allowed just 20 minutes to shower per day as a family. Not great when it's hot and you're planning a visit to the pool and the beach. The key fob activated the shower and the time started ticking down the minute you put the key fob near the shower, whether the water was running or not! Hence, only one family member could shower at a time. So it took forever for us to work our way through the family and get ready to go out each morning. Once your water was gone, it was gone.
The key fob activated the door to the whole toilet/washing block so if a family member went off to shower or to wash up and you needed a wee. You had to hover outside waiting for someone to come out and let you in. This was a pain!
The toilets were right next to the dishwashing area so most mornings, I washed the breakfast dishes to the accompanying sound of some stranger just 4 ft away from me, doing a noisy poo (Ewww!). Not to mention the men using the urinals right next to me. To add insult to injury, there was no separate handwashing basin so people came out of the toilets and washed their hands in the dishwashing sinks, then proceeded to flick their wet hands over people's clean dishes. Yuck!
The pools were small but very nice although there was just a single life guard for 3 pools and when a small boy cracked his head open, the lifeguard stood by and chatted to the ambulance crew whilst the pools went unsupervised. There were lots of over enthusiastic teenage boys in the pool, dive bombing, riccocheting off the slides and jumping in but the lifeguard just ignored them. It was very unsafe for families with young children.
The campsite was filled with very small children, some just 2 or 3, whizzing around on bikes and scooters up to 10 or 11 o'clock at night. This was so dangerous as they had no lights and no road sense. My family and I almost came a cropper several times walking to the toilets at night as these children came full pelt around corners. The parents of the children should have been supervising them but given that they weren't, a warden needs to patrol the site once it's dark.
This site was very, very noisy in the evenings, partly due to the children flying around until very late but also due to some families having no respect for anyone else. Loud music and loud talking after mid-night was just not on. One family insisted on walking to the toilet at 3am on more than one occasion, talking loudly to each other.
It became very apparent that youths from outside the site were coming in and taking advantage of the facilities and there were issues of small children being prevented from using the football pitch.
This campsite has the potential to be really good but as it stands, I wouldn't return.
