 If you’re looking for a peaceful site with generous level (ish) pitches, easy to get to with no narrow roads to negotiate, wide access & no difficult manoeuvring required then this is a site for you. An added bonus is they have cottages too in case you want to holiday with others who don’t have their own setup. The site doesn’t have toilets or showers but we knew that so it wasn’t a problem.
We had a wonderful fortnight at this lovely CL & for about a week we had it to ourselves. It’s clear to see as soon as you arrive that the owners take a great deal of pride in their site & we fully understand why they have a ‘no groundsheet’ rule. The grass is cut short & although we didn’t see much in the form of wildlife, we were kept entertained by the motorised mower which worked tirelessly in the adjoining paddocks (how sad are we :)
The location is beautiful, at the end of a lovely quaint village with tea rooms but no pub. Although the site is screened on two sides providing shelter, it can get quite blustery but this was very welcome when the heatwave hit.
There are some lovely walks directly from the site. Lewisham is close enough to walk to but not an easy stroll. Close by (but car needed) are Pickering, Whitby & the beautiful villages of Thornton Le Dale, Helmsley & Hutton Le Hole (parking is cheaper behind The Crown Pub). Also the beautiful Dalby Forest is close by for a good day out especially if you have bikes.
Communication with the site was very good. Deposits & full payment for the CL are made by bank transfer, the booking was made by email & messages are answered promptly.
There was no one around when we arrived so we made a quick phone call to the owners who answered quickly & explained about the facilities & told us which pitch to use. We did meet them then a few days after arriving, they were very friendly & helpful & as we were leaving on our last day, they came out to thank us for staying with them which we thought was nice. We have no hesitation in recommending this lovely CL.

We booked for a 2 night stay on Halloween / Goth Weekend.
We received a very warm welcome from the owners despite the late hour of our arrival. Beautiful location, easily accessed from the Pickering to Whitby road. Follow the directions in the caravan club directory and you won't go wrong. (when you get into Lockton do not turn right towards Levisham. ) There is a wide access gate from road. Large open grassed field with large pitches overlooking a farmhouse and cottages. The site is very well marked out with information boards on where/how to pitch. Re-cycling area, Chem waste, drinking water supply all separate. There are NO toilets or showers.
Lockton village and surrounding area has a number of great walks which are clearly sign posted. The village of Levisham, and North York Moors Railway are nearby ( warning steep hill down to the station at Levisham so be prepared if walking to the station ).
Had a nice lunch at The Three Horsehoes at Levisham.
25mins drive to Whitby and 10 mins to Pickering. Good TV reception on site plus WIFI ( didn't use this but was strong signal ). Very well laid out CL. Very peaceful location. Would definitely recommend this very well kept CL. Thankyou to the owners - We will be back next year :)
