 In January I returned twice again to what is becoming my favourite winter campsite in the Lake District, a one night stay as part of a 3 day backpacking trip in freezing conditions, and a two night stay with a friend later in the month.
Borrowdale YHA really is one of the best places to camp in winter as you have the best of both worlds - camping in lovely surroundings AND the facilities of the hostel close at hand - their cosy lounge really is appreciated on a long winter's evening, so much better than hiding in my sleeping bag on the side of some windswept fell!
Campers have access to all of the hostel facilities, and there are basic facilities accessible up steep steps outside too.
Location is superb, staff are friendly and the price is very low - only costs £8 a night using a winter discount code.
Will definitely stay again!

A great stay! Camping at a very reasonable price, with access to some brilliant facilities.
Kind and polite staff, great atmosphere in the main room and some cheap yet cheerful food.
The drying room also helps to make the camping experience much more enjoyable.
Will definitely stay again

Borrowdale YHA is an excellent hostel with rooms, camping and pods all available.
Excellently placed in one of the best spots in the Lakes and an excellent base for walking in the fells.
Staff are great, and the on site bar and restaurant is excellent.

Arrived in darkness after a long day on the hill and was given a warm welcome. Camping area is not large but I have never seen it crowded, found a nice flat pitch and retired to the lounge, which has a fire, a bar and several comfy sofas, a very pleasant place to spend an evening after a hard day on the hill. An ideal location to get chatting with fellow walkers.
The outdoor facilities for campers are a bit spartan, and are accessible up some viciously steep steps, which can by icy, but campers have access to the hostel facilities too.
Special mention must be made of the price - normal price is only £10 per person per night, which is cheap by today's standards, but with a winter discount code I got 20% off!
Will definitely stay again. Note that dogs are allowed on the campsite, in the camping pods and in the lounge, but not in the hostel as a whole.
Please ignore my child friendliness score as I travelled without a child, but I could not select n/a.

Excellent hostel with rooms, pods and camping all available.
Excellent bar, good breakfast and good facilities.
Very well located for walking in Borrowdale, and a short drive into Keswick.
