We stayed on this campsite because of the other review here (thanks!).
Bloomfields is a 16th century farm with apple trees, pear trees, Figs and rambling grounds. If you find old, gently ramshackle buildings and grounds to explore, irresistible and charming (as I do) I recommend it. If you want a bustling, perfect campsite with a hands on owner, look elsewhere.
We never saw the owner, just left an envelope with the money in (£10 pppn). A small, quiet field, all to ourselves was heaven. Marshmallows were toasted, blackberries were nibbled and butterflies rested on stones in the sunshine.
The site could probably benefit from a bit more maintenance, but the grass was lush and freshly mown and the toilets were clean, and spacious with a good hot shower (damaged holder but didn't affect use).
It was great to have access to an indoor kitchen with freezer, sinks and kettle.
There is a farm shop within walking distance and a huge car boot sale on Sunday mornings just around the corner (still quiet on the site).
Local villages are very pretty, with tearooms, pubs and craft shops.
I am keen to go back, although this is not a site which will suit everyone. via mobile
We usually camp in a tent, but fancied a change and away from the hassle of getting all our camping stuff out. I noticed this site offered glamping units, so emailed to enquire.
Emails were answered quickly and politely.
We were offered a shepherds hut at £40 a night and it was free over august bank holiday.
Site was easy to find if you followed the directions given.
Owners were away, but someone was available to tell us where everything was, but only for a couple of hours the whole weekend !
. The shepherds hut was really lovely and cosy, with extra touches like books and Dice games and info on the local area. Clean fresh bedding.
. There is a Large kitchen in the barn with everything you needed. The kitchen could of done with a bit of a clean and tidy up but was ideal to use. Fridge, freezer, kettles, toasters, cookers and plenty of crockery. There was no one else camping, but the area for camping was really nice with a large fire pit to use in the middle. Large children's play area and tennis courts and plenty of animals to see in fields up, the drive to the farmhouse.
There was also a swimming pool, unusable, which was a shame and sofas, in a rather untidy area and a pool table.
The portaloo toilets were very nice,
The best I think I've seen on a campsite, and there was a hot shower in a portaloo type building that was good as well.
The place seemed very laid back, which was nice, but we felt it needed a bit more information i. E. Where to put any rubbish and recycling and where the water drinking points were.
We visited the crown pub which was very friendly and had a huge selection of drinks and food.
We also went to the wooden fender pub, Which had a beer festival on all weekend, with live music.
We had a lovely meal here, a bit expensive but the way it was presented was lovely.
We really enjoyed our stay, even though we weren't far from home, it was lovely to get out in the country and just chill out.
If the kitchen are was a bit tidier it would of been 100 per cent perfect.
Maybe instuctions or a number to ring if the owners were away and we needed any help, would of been a good idea. Also their website doesn't not mention the shepherds hut, but maybe they want to keep it quiet ?
I'm surprised no one else has reviewed this campsite as it's lovely and we would recommend and hope to visit again.
