We stayed here for 3 nights. We needed to break our journey to Spain. It was a bit away from the motorway, but I thought staying by the Dordogne would be worth the extra journey, and it was.
Its a small, basic site of 20 pitches. The warden is on site between 4pm and 8pm. If you arrive before this, there's a sign that tells you to find a pitch, get set up, relax and come back later. The warden was there when we arrived, she was originally from Cornwall, having lived in the area for several years.
The pitches were shaded and generously proportioned. The sanitary block was small, which was fine as there were so few pitches. It was kept very clean.
The site was on the banks of the Dordogne, which is a fast flowing river here, and there are signs warning that swimming is not permitted. We found this a little disappointing, but it was nice to be able to walk along the river.
The beach bar/restaurant area is adjacent to the site, it consists of formal dining tables, more relaxed tables and beach style chairs on sand. There were lots of fairy lights, parasols, music, giving a lively, holiday atmosphere, it was very well done. They had a children's play area and games for children to play with.
We didn't eat in the restaurant, but had a drink there, it was very pleasant.
The small town of St. Terre has a mini supermarket, a bar, restaurant. It has some nice buildings, typical of the area.
We cycled to St Emillion through the vineyards. It took about a half an hour. The chateaux you pass are beautiful, each one grander than the last. You can stop and try the wine in some chateaux along the way if you like. St Emillion is a picturesque town, a lot less thronged with tourists than we thought it would be. Its a lovely place to have lunch, with lots of choices of restaurant there.
This campsite cost us €17. 50 per night for 2 adults and a campervan with electricity. We thought that it was fantastic value for money, a lovely shaded pitch, beside the Dordogne with the beach bar and restaurant, located in a picturesque area.
An excellent, simple, municipal, site offering easy access to St Emillion and Castillon la Bataille.
Some 20 decent sized pitches, flat, shaded, grassy with EHU.
The ablutions block was spotlessly clean, good showers. Though not the most modern.
The council provide a small caravan for the visiting 'manager', who seldom stays the night, but appears daily and is resident for several hours.
The site is on the banks of the Dordogne. Though this is slightly tidal due to the proximity of the sea. And, evidence of heavy silting. To launch a kayak, depending on the tidal state, may mean wading through mud. There is a launch point ditectly beside the site entrance.
Next to the campsite is a bar and restaurant, all under canvas. Good value food, though not haute cuisine, much used by the locals, and outdoor bar area. Excellent service for a municipal!
We spent five nights. Saw the very good new version of the re-enactment of the famous 'battle' at Castillon la Bataille (7 kms). St Emillion is lovely. Eat in the main square. And plenty of good, level, biking in the area.
Castillon has good shopping and supermarket.
