Mature couple with large tent. Length of stay – 2 nights.
An absolutely wonderful campsite run by a friendly Dutchman who told us that he ‘currently’ spoke five languages, implying that perhaps he is learning another! There's an open grassy area, but most of the unmarked pitches are beneath ancient oak trees, with thicker woodland beyond and you can camp wherever you like.
There were only a few other people there in mid June and at times when the cuckoos and woodpeckers weren't calling, it was totally silent. No road noise at all. However, I’ve seen photos of the campsite in high season when the whole place is full. The open layout and no marked pitches would then count against it, as there would be no privacy at all.
The loo block was the most immaculate we have ever seen, with loo roll (but no soap) and tiled walls in each cubicle, plenty of hot water in the lovely showers and always kept beautifully clean.
A simple but tasty four course meal was on offer for just €16, but needed to be booked in advance. In June when we were there, there was no bar open, but this may be different in high season.
We loved it here and wished we’d had time to stay longer, but were using it as a stopover on the way home.
There was a small 'Proxi' supermarket, a boulangerie and a little bar/café just down the road in Payrac
Warning - the electricity distribution points are the 'old' two-pin French type and you need to bring an adaptor.
I am presently staying at this little gem of a site. It is not all singing and dancing but is a lovely quiet site. The sanitary facilities are fine. Plenty of hot water for showers and for washing up. The toilets have seats and toilet paper, and are kept scrupulously clean.
The site also has a small restaurant that is open in the main season. It is not an exhaustive menu because it is not a huge site, but the meals are excellent. I have had a few meals and have been more than satisfied. The owners are very helpful and speak perfect English. WiFi is available and is totally free.
The site is not huge and has lots of shade in what was once an oak wood. There is also a large expanse that is devoid of trees if you prefer an open aspect. Panoramic is also handy for an overnight stop. It is not far from the A20. It is also central for many of the attractions in the Lot and Dordogne. There is a small bakery, mini-market and pharmacy in the village which is just a few minutes away.
The site also allows rallies and is ideal for such an event. Very dog friendly and very reasonable charges. I am paying €12. 5 per night for myself and my two Cocker Spaniels and includes electric.
