Campsite is right on the edge of Lough Ree with access to the lake from the campsite beach.
Vast majority on site were seasonals with their own boats, the few that were tourers were fishing so it very much felt like a fishermans site - lots of fishing and boating paraphernalia strewn around.
Pitches not marked out and told to find somewhere we liked and help ourselves, we pitched down by the water, plenty of electric hook ups and water taps.
From the site no walks along the lake, there is an old railway cycle path with a mile or two away but main road to get to it.
This is one of the very few sites that offer ACSI discounts in Eire, €19 instead of €30 if you have an ACSI card. Showers are €1 extra.
The people who run the site super friendly and helpful. For us it felt to be a site for boaters and fishermen which seems to be who they attract. Great for an overnight but not any longer for us.

We stayed here in July, there is a nice lake on the edge of the campsite and when we arrived on the Thursday we were told we could pitch anywhere, pitches were not marked out uniformly or allocated. We set up our caravan and awning in a nice spacious spot close to the toilet facilities.
On the Friday we went out, upon arriving back at the campsite, not only had our car parking space disappeared but there were two tents pitched very close to our caravan hitch and if we had wanted to move out, there was no way we could have moved our caravan. These campers also decided to use our caravan as a windbreak for their bbq. Then on the Saturday another caravan pitched up close to the tents
Over the weekend more and more people arrived and the campsite was busting at the seams. The owner told us not to worry as they would all be gone by Sunday evening.
There were several seasonal pitched vehicles with awnings blown down, and the campsite owners were advising new arrival to pitch up next to the unoccupied seasonal caravans or in the small spaces between these.
The disabled toilet was open to all and sundry, and one day I went to go in and the lady was cleaning it, she suggested that it should be kept locked with disabled people being allowed a key, as kids kept running in and making a mess of it.
The showers were 1 euro each, which lasted 7 minutes and I did manage to have a shower and get my hair washed in this amount of time.
So if you are visiting this campsite, I suggest not going over the weekend.
The Wifi was free, but kept dropping out, especially when the site was busy.
There is a local pub less than 5 minutes away that served meals.

A very pleasant site located on the shore of Lough Ree. Owner very friendly and laid back. You can pitch virtually anywhere but there are plenty of electric (10 amp) and water points. The shower/Wc block is brand new and of a high quality, although a bit small given the size of the site. Showers cost 1 Euro for 7 minutes.
The Dog and Duck is a very short walk from the site, but we did not find the usual Irish welcome there. Still the Guinness served was good.

A lovely little site close to Athlone.
The site is very relaxed and we were told to pitch up anywhere.
The owner is making improvements to the site. Toilets and showers were clean. Showers took €1 coins, not sure how long they lasted. It looks like outside washing up sinks are being installed under a canopy.
Site is on a lough and it looks like you can launch boats.
A minutes walk round the corner is a pub, The Dog & Duck, with a café attached. Good beer and food, not a huge menu, but good value.
