We really like this site and the area - hence we are back again!
No major changes to report this time.
If you are considering a visit to this site, please be aware that although there is a barrier at the site entrance, it raises automatically as you approach and so you can enter, choose a pitch and get set up, then register when the site warden arrives at 5pm (as you are invited to do on the board by the reception).
We are so pleased the site continues to flourish as a municipal campsite, for all types of campers, and that the commune continues to invest in it. Long may it continue! via mobile
The work on the electricity supply has been completed and so electric points are now available at all pitches again. This has left some of the pitches slightly bare and a little bumpy in places, but as there is always plenty of choice of pitches this does not cause a problem.
There has also been some cutting back of trees and general neatening of the site, though there is still an excellent mixture of shaded, semi-shaded and open pitches.
A couple of the "huts on legs" have been removed, but the older pre-erected bell tents have been replaced by newer ones (about 6 or 8 in total).
The site caters well for cycle campers or walkers by providing lockable lockers for phone charging and keeping valuables, a covered area by reception to sit and a large open-sided marquee with tables and chairs, a fridge-freezer and a microwave for general use and as well as the bread service, pre-bookable breakfast is available.
The toilets and showers are as previously described, though the men's toilets now also have seats! There are separate male and female facilities, but when the site is quiet only one side is open and so they are Unisex.
The road works in the town have finally come to an end, so no further issues with access.
The walk by the Loire and along the paths up to the Citadel are ideal for walking the dog - an important consideration for us in selecting a site.
All in all a great example of a municipal site on the edge of an attractive little town on the banks of the Loire and right on the Loire a Velo cycle route.
We have used this site many times now, usually on our way from and back to Cherbourg.
Although the office has limited opening hours, you can pitch up whenever you arrive and register/pay later.
Online booking is also available, with no upfront payment or booking fees, although in low season this is definitely not necessary and I doubt it would be in high season either.
Credit cards are accepted and bread etc can be ordered daily.
There were major issues with the site's electricity supply last year, with availability limited to a small number of pitches in one area of the site, but this should be sorted for the 2026 season.
Hopefully the roadworks in town should be completed now as well.
We fully agree with all the previous positive reviews. This site is a great example of a municipal, calm and peaceful, in an excellent location by the Loire and a historic small town (Petit Cite de Caractere), with decent facilities and reasonably priced. via mobile
Very nice site on an island in the Loire, the entrance is between two bridges over the river. It’s a grassy site with plenty of mature trees for shade but open areas as well. There is a fridge for campers use and tables and chairs under a large awning for eating.
Modern, clean sanitary facilities are upstairs, separate blocks for men and women (although if the site is not busy, only one block is open and shared) plenty of loos and showers, soap and toilet paper provided.
Washing up and laundry sinks and disabled facilities are downstairs, as well as washing lines. Breakfasts are available in a covered area next to reception. Wifi is free but only close to the reception area. It’s pretty cheap, with discounts for stays of two or more nights, and there are pre-pitched tents for hire too.
Saint Florent le Vieil is a short walk across one of the bridges, the cycle path runs along the river bank and there is a big church up on the hill with lovely views from its gardens. A hotel just across the bridge serves meals and drinks on a terrace over the river.

This is a nice municipal site. It is by one of the Loire Bridges and close to the Loire a Vélo cycling walking route. It has reasonable WiFi around the reception cabin.
Sanitary facilities and laundry / washing machine are up a flight of external stairs but there are disabled toilets on the ground floor. The facilities are old but clean and plenty of hot water.
Pitches are marked and generous grass areas. Lots of trees for shade, but satellite reception is possible if pitch chosen carefully. Usual reasonably priced municipal facilities. Reception has a small library and odds and ends for sale but no fresh produce. CC not accepted. Village with shops, restaurant, bar within walking distance and Super you within 10 minutes by car. Nice winery within 15 minutes by car.
The site is actually on an river island and nice cycling or walking from the gate.
