 We booked for 3 nights (only stayed 2) We arrived on the Friday with no instructions on how to “check in” so set up then went to find someone to let them know we had arrived. We found out from the lady in the shop that we had to go to the cafe.
I was met by a nice lady to whom I informed that we had arrived and that we were members of the caravan club (there are signs they are too) She spoke to someone who was behind a door in what I assume is the kitchen who barked “yes it’s £90 cash no discount!” So I handed the cash over.
I guess that’s our check in then?! The nice lady looked really embarrassed and apologetic!
I then asked about lunch and was told we had to sit outside in the rain as we had a dog with us. So they’re ok you bring your dog to stay on site but you can’t sit inside in bad weather with one!
I asked for an oat latte to which I was told there was no plant based milk of any kind. Ok so that’s fine I said and ordered sandwiches and cold drinks to sit outside with.
The next day my husband was fishing so I went back to the cafe garden to buy some cake to takeaway. A young female came out and asked if they could help me? To which I explained that I would like to buy some cake please to take back to my caravan. She was very rude and said you need to go to the front door as the garden was closed. I advised her I was staying on site, had been there the day before and as I had my dog was unable to go into the cafe through the door. She again said this area is closed I can’t help you.
She made me feel so embarrassed and upset just for asking to buy cake!
So we were on site, no one greeted us to welcome us and show us where everything was and to top it off the on site staff were more than lacking!
The site:
Cash only but take card payments in the cafe.
They have no email!? I had to push for a confirmation email for my booking which I got but no instructions on the site etc on it and it came from a staff member’s personal email.
The pitches are on a big deep slope so lots of wedges needed for the van.
The elsan point is in front of the building in view of the car park where people arrive to fish or eat!
The hidden rubbish bins have “cafe only rubbish” on them.
The shower room smelt of cheap gloss paint and was filthy and so out of date with plastic chairs and cheap ornaments.
On a plus note the fishing lessons with Steve and his wife was very good. They’re not in any way connected to the cafe or site so it’s definitely a place of 2 halves.

Stayed here for the fishing with friends and we all caught very little but the site was great.
Spotless toilets, great cafe doing good food and pleasant staff.
A few good pubs within a mile also doing good food.
I've been here twice and will return again.
Very peaceful at night pleasant views and the chance to catch a big un love it.

We stayed here as I was at an archery competition at Lilleshall national sports centre which is the other side of Newport, Shropshire.
There are 5 pitches which are all hard standing and surrounded by individual pitches. The pitches are not big enough for a full size awning. The pitches are part of the outer car park of the cafe, shop and trout fishing lodge.
There is no barrier on the entrance from the road so everyone driving into the cafe, shop or trout lodge is driving past the pitches.
The turn out of the site is onto a fast narrow road. Saying all that the site is peaceful with a view of the two trout lakes.
The shower, toilet and chemical disposal are at the near corner of the main building which is across the car park - not a problem. The shower/toilet room is good.
The fresh water fill point is under the cafe kitchen window.
The food in the cafe is very good.
