 We stayed at Camping Arenillas as part of camping trip to Spain and France - during the heatwave! It is a really nice site, well located for the Bilbao ferry (25 mins) and the Santander ferry (45 mins or so) and brilliantly situated for all of the great bits of northern Spain and some of the best coastal towns including San Sebastián.
The site sits within the Basque region and is within easy reach of Asturias (stunning) and Galicia (also beautiful). For wine lovers, you can also get to Rioja and do the Camino de Santiago if you’re a walker.
The local town of Laredo is a great sea side resort with a fabulous beach. That said, Playa de Arenillas is a 2 minute walk from the site and is also lovely and incredibly picturesque.
The site is mix of seasonal pitches for the Spanish, who all head north for their holidays, and touring pitches. Campers, caravanners, and motorhomers are all equally welcome. The pitches are all a decent size, well maintained, and with EHU.
The toilets and showers have been refurbished (two blocks) and are kept really clean, there is also a laundry, washing lines, and two dishwashing areas and also a decent kids play area and small field.
There is a basic on site shop which sells nice local bread although it doesn’t have stacks. There is also a cafe-style bar and restaurant, we had a sandwich, they also sell some burgers, and pizzas. There is almost nothing veggie friendly which is quite unusual in Spain nowadays.
I would very much recommend the site for a short or long trip.

I seem to be the only one leaving a review for this site! But it is used by many British tourists from their car registrations I've seen.
I only use it as a stopover but since last year the toilet block at front of site has been modernised.
The access is not for the faint hearted and every year it doesn't get easier!
I would recommend this site and would use it again.

I returned to this site as I found it very pleasant last year.
The staff are very helpful and access to the site was no problem, even as the ferry docked 3 hrs later than planned!
I still cannot comment on the tavernas nor the beach as I arrived so late and had an early start.
I tried the other wash block and found that to be much better than the one at the entrance.
A very good stopover but I think the area is good for hiking as I spotted a couple of trails.

I visited this site for an overnight stay. It is about 1. 5hrs from Santander port. The site was very nice and had a choice of pitches. They are all a bit small especially if you intend to use an awning. The beach is very close and there are a couple of tavernas not far away. Although I did not try them.
If arriving from Santander leave the motorway at Jn 156 not 155 as I believe the approach to the site would be more difficult.
Leaving before 9am maybe a little difficult.
Toilets and showers are ok. Toilets have seats but no paper.
All in all I would use the site again and recommend as a stopover.
