A fantastic, quiet, tidy campsite. Just 4 pitches meant that there was none of that holiday camp feeling found on some campsites.
The facilities block was well maintained and immaculately clean, with good facilities for personal hygiene and washing up and easy disposal of rubbish (sorted for recycling) and chemical toilet cassette emptying.
Our pitch, "Under Oaks", was arranged so that we almost had a private garden on the side of the van away from the facilities and screened from the next pitch by a short hedge. This was fantastic for the dogs as they did not see other people or feel the need to tell us about them.
All the pitches have electric hook-up via a pre-paid meter (take some cash for this) and our hosts, Martin and Carol-Anne were fabulous, friendly and helpful in the extreme.
The site was very quiet apart from the birdsong. The only man-made noise was an occasional train. Access to Saundersfoot, Narberth and Tenby was easy, though you might want to sanity check your GPS if it is like mine; it kept trying to save the odd 20 or 30 meters by taking me down roads that would be narrow for horses.
The location is easy to access with a touring van (approach from the west to keep the length of single lane road to a minimum; Google maps may try to bring you in from the East, which could be far more challenging if you meet traffic).
We will definitely be back; we absolutely loved it.
We had a lovely week at Melin Mabes. It's a beautiful quiet place, although not far from the road & close to the railway. We woke to birdsong every day, then the ducks & chickens took over later (Our lovely hosts sell their delicious eggs!)
There are 4 camping pitches in a small field. The amenities are in the corner of the field, washing-up sinks under cover & a small warm toilet block with two wet rooms, one to suit a person with disabilities with two showers.
There's always hot water. Shampoo, conditioner & shower cream are provided as well as washing-up liquid. Electricity is paid for as used on a pre-paid card, which seems a much fairer system than those who don't use electric paying for it in the price of the pitch.
Martin is very busy renovating the mill to generate electricity, but still has time for a chat. Carol Ann's friendly & generous - she gave us loads of her delicious salad - as well as working hard, keeping the place homelike.
Tenby, Saundersfoot, Amroth & Narbeth are all in easy reach, & check out Colby Woodland Garden - beautiful. If you're in Narbeth, the museum's worth a visit but definitely go to Plum Vanilla - fabulous cakes & coffee, wonderful tasty food.
Only one gripe, nothing to do with the site - we ran out of gas & had to get a bottle from the convenience store in Begelly. The price was extortionate, so beware!
A very quiet site, not all that level and quite small, the the road approaching the site is very narrow with not many passing pull ins, and the road has many pot holes near to the site.
On the plus side it very quiet, ( apart from the cockerel, which loves waking you about 4-30 am every morning every day, for about 4 hrs. )
The owner is very helpful, and the shower block and toilets first class, with a endless supply of hot water not timer controlled. Everything you need is supplied free of charge, shampoo, conditioner, soap etc.
Great for dog walking, from the site.
All in all great little site.
