What a gorgeous little site! Our intention was to find a location with good access to the mountains of the Les Ecrins area, and this turned out to be ideal. At the end of August there was plenty of space when we arrived early afternoon without a reservation, but it filled up towards evening every day.
The site is far enough away from the busy N94 to be devoid of traffic noise but near enough for daily trips to the many mountain resorts in the area. After being in the drier parts of Provence for the previous several weeks it was very nice to be on a green and grassy site and with fabulous views to the Ecrins mountains. The facilities on the site are excellent with two largeish sanitaires and a smaller one. Showers are adequately warm, but not scorchio and toilet paper is BYO. There is no pool, which suits us fine, but if you are desparate there is a public one in Argentiere la Bessee, a few km away. Pitches are in several small areas, some more sunny or shaded than others, and there are picnic tables for tent campers. There is also a communal indoor area/games room.
We had excellent weather during our stay so did numerous hikes of varying distances and denivele. Some of the remote valleys were fabulous - it is essential to get away from the N94 valley, though the driving can be slightly 'memorable'. Access to the ski area at Puy St Vincent is however very easy. Unfortunately our intention to do some downhill biking in that area was thwarted by the lifts closing on 31 August, the day before we drove up there. Still, lots of other things to do, including, if you wish, rock climbing in the beautiful and spectacular Aile Froide area, or hiking to the glacier from there. Again our plans were spoiled the day we went as we got a puncture just before the parking area and had to go back to Argentiere to get it repaired.
Our visit to Briancon left us less impressed as we thought the town quite ordinary and blighted by ugly commercial areas.
Our route onwards from Le Verger took us on the spectacular road from Briancon to Grenoble. Fantastic mountain views all the way. Although the road was mostly superbly well engineered with wide hairpins and easy gradients (almost all downhill in this direction - but one very narrow tunnel) it might be a bit intimidating for less-confident drivers with large caravans. The direction Grenoble - Briancon would be more difficult.
We still have many things to do and see in this area, so hope to return some time not too far away!
