We stayed in the Lagavulin pod for 4 nights with our dog. Looking out on to the bay we saw many different birds, seals and otters. We also had some deer come right up to the pod one evening.
The pods are in the middle of the 3 distillery way and an easy walk to Port Ellen. We came in our car, but for those on foot the bus service is reasonable except for Sunday. Lagavulin distillery is next door with Laphroig 15 mins walk one way and Ardbeg 15 mins the other. We also popped in to the other 6 distilleries not including Port Ellen which is not open to walk-ins. Also nipped across to Jura!
Our host Gus was very friendly and gave us some fresh-from-the-sea scallops which went well with the dram (Sláinte Gus!). If we had been there longer, I would have liked to have gone on one of his boat fishing trips.
The pod was very clean and comfortable with all mod cons. No hob, but an air fryer if you are so inclined. Oh and no hair drier. I have no need of this, but our new neighbour was desperate to borrow one on arrival!
If you are travelling with a dog, make sure their frontline is up to date and that you have a tick twister. This is a suggestion to visitors, not a complaint. This is wild country and you need to make allowances for that.
Highly recommended. When we have been everywhere else, I'd like to go back for a fishing trip.
These camping pods are simply stunning, set on the shores of Lagavulin Bay overlooking the ruins of Dunyvaig castle. Islay is a whisky island but there is also plenty of wildlife, walking & history to explore. There is an off-road cycle/walking path linking the pods to the nearest village - Port Ellen, about 3 miles away. There you find a Co-op, Spar, Post Office and several cafes & bars.
We booked Solum, the smallest pod. Yes, it is cosy but clean, comfortable and well equipped. If you are used to tent camping or motorhoming you won't have a problem! NB compared to many other "pods" I would consider this "glamping" but there is no TV, no wifi & no hottub. However, there is a picnic table, sheltered decking and a large BBQ provided.
Overall, hard to fault. We would certainly stay here again.
