A good site with a gem of an owner, Joe Lavelle, who will come to meet you after you phone him, give you a great welcome and a deposit free fob for the security barrier. Pay "whenever you like", a lovely trusting attitude. €20 per night is very good for Ireland.
5 nights is enough to see the whole island, especially if the weather isn't great (it wasn't), do go to Keem Strand which has a lovely beach and fine views on the way, just don't look down to the sea, very scary road. There are a couple of other beaches which would be ok for children if you have good weather.
Go along the east coast by car, there are some more tremendous views, then head around to the "capital", Achill Sound, which is not much more than a village but has shops and a cashpoint. There only seems to be one garage which also has a shop, you will see it on the way to the site.
Facilities are fine, if dated, has washing machine and dryer and free showers. There is a beach adjacent, which again would be ok on a nice day.
Oh, and in May, it should be renamed "rhododendron island", I have never seen so many bushes.
