This is the 2nd time we've stayed here - the last time was 10 years ago.
We are normally tent campers but stayed in a cabin/chalet both times as we flew to Finland.
This is a lovely peaceful site in Helsinki - it's not right in the middle but easily accessible by metro and very near the metro station. The site is next to the seashore by one of the bridges, and there is a sandy beach with swimming pier, changing cubicles and shower.
This time we stayed in a 'camping cabin' which is the most basic kind: it includes a bunkbed and 2 single beds, a fridge, microwave and table + chairs. Bedding and towels are included, but you're expected to make up and strip the beds (normal in Finland). Clean, functional and comfortable, our only problem was that we found it a bit warm! A basic cutlery, crockery and pan set can be borrowed from the reception with a deposit.
The shower block was warm and clean - busy at peak times but there are three blocks. There is a very well equipped camping kitchen with fridges and freezers as well as cookers, microwaves and sinks: there are also some covered barbeque grill places.
The campsite has three small playgrounds, a cafe (we didn't sample this time as it wasn't open at a time we were at the campsite), laundry facilities, a tv room, bike hire, sauna, etc etc. The staff at the main reception spoke English, and there are lockers in the reception building if you have valuables you want to leave somewhere safe.
The caravan and motorhome places seemed quite squashed in (be aware that some are not big enough to have an awning, but this is specified), but the tents are in a big open area and a few smaller areas. If you want electric for your tent this might not be the best campsite for you, as you would have to book one of the wider caravan pitches and have a tent which would fit into the space of a caravan awning (the other half of the pitch is hard standing).
There's a corner shop with basic supplies between the metro station and the campsite, with a big shopping centre at the next station along.
There's various walks marked from the campsite, and you're only about 20 minutes by metro from the centre of Helsinki.
