This is our 3rd stay here at Orchard View. We first stayed in June for 1 night when we purchased a new caravan. We stayed over as it was halfway point to home in Northumberland.
It was so lovely & peaceful we didn't want go home. So we stayed again in beginning of July for 3 nights. We are now at the end of September & we are staying for 4 nights.
The views are lovely, it's off the beaten track so there is no road noise, you can actually see a busy road in the distance but can only hear birds, bo traffic noise.
It's on a working farm with an apple orchard what you can walk. Around. They sell apple juice & apple cider which is made from their own apples & taste beautiful.
There are cool boxes which they leave next to the bins, in there you will find cider in 1 & apple juice in the other & you leave your money inside. There is a plastic tu with books in which you can lend.
Upon arrival you can also request fresh eggs & the lady brings a laminated information sheet to uou which tells you what shops, pubs, restaurants, chemist, petrol stations & supermarkets near by, with postcodes & distance to them.
Very informative. The couple who run Orchard View are such a lovely couple & very helpful. We have a severly disabled daughter who is 31 & thet welcomed us to walk round their Orchard.
It really is a lovely peaceful site with lovely open views. We will come back here as often as possible.
The site is next to an RAF base so weekdays you will see & hear jets etc flying over & while yes they are loud we thoroughly enjoy seeing them. They do not fly over at night or at weekends.
We have a large twin axle caravan & because of our wheelchair bound daughter we tow with a mwb van & the site is easily accessible with this towing outfit.
Try it yourselves for that peaceful break away ❤️ via mobile
A nice site which is easy to find using the CAMC directions. N. B. There is no village called Smearholme, that is the alternative name for the farm.
From the north, leave the A1(M) at J51, J50 from the south and get on the A6055 parallel to the A1(M). It's easier than it sounds and is signed from just past the underpass.
The track to the farm is fine. The site is a large grass area, good recycling and is level.
The owner will come to see you, points out everything, takes your money, now £15 which is fine, thereafter leaves you alone.
There is a very friendly sheep and a pony in the adjoining fields.
The nearest decent shop is the Co Op in Leeming bar, others at Bedale and Masham. Ripon is a must see, and has supermarkets. We were disappointed with Thirsk.
We would use the site again if in the area.
