I really wanted to like this site. And for a few hours after we arrived it was grand - small and quirkily laid out, small but clean toilets, a distant sea view, lots of country scenery and bird sound all around, even a decent pizza / burger van and coffee tent on site, and a very nice owner.
There is a nice walk along country fields to the nearest village. It is well placed for visits to Clonakilty, Skibbereen, Kinsale and the South West Cork coast.
You select your pitch before arriving even though there's no way of telling what it's like. We had a pitch near the entrance beside a horse-drawn type of hire caravan with a small field in front of us surrounded by a wooden fence.
However come Fri evening the field was heaving with tents and large numbers of kids and teens playing football and hurling. I spent the next two days waiting for the thud of ball on caravan, which of course duly arrived. I complained and the owner tried, but later the games continued.
At one point our caravan was directly behind the makeshift goals. I came here for a peaceful country retreat but this was anxiety inducing stuff.
There was also a bit of late night noise from the rented units, both beside us and elsewhere. Perhaps some of the pitches farthest from the rented units and tent field would have reduced the problems somewhat.
We left after 2 nights despite having booked and paid for 5. It was probably a lot better during the week rather than at the weekend to be fair, but we didn't want to take the chance.
In other circumstances this would be a very nice little site but we did not enjoy our visit I'm afraid. via mobile
