 We fancied a long weekend break to visit this part of Northamptonshire and Rutland, and this site seemed to tick all the boxes for us.
The access road off the A43 is single track with passing places, but easily do-able with a caravan.
On arrival, the friendly warden offered us a choice of pitches and pointed out which ones had shade, which ones got the evening sun etc etc.
There are lovely walks in the woods directly from the site, unfortunately it was a bit too hot during our stay to explore these fully.
Can't comment on the toilets, as we didn't use them. The ice creams from the cafe next door were very welcome.
Stamford Market on a Friday is well worth a visit.
Although only an hour from home, this site will be a firm favourite for us to return to when we fancy a little weekend break.

Lovely site, very clean and nicely spaced out pitches.
The staff are really friendly.
Great walk through the woods to the village for a meal.
Dog friendly.

Stayed here when it was basically a car park, the site has now reopened under new management and been updated, it now has various pitches some with electric and water.
There is a portaloo toilet block but no showers and no washing up facilities for those tent camping.
The site was very clean and staff very helpful.
A nice place to stay in the forest with plenty of walks and cycling

In April 2026, Fineshade Wood Campsite proudly reopened as a fully operated campsite under the Forestry England banner, in partnership with Camping New Forest Ltd.
Tents, tentboxes, campervans, caravans, motorhomes, cyclists and bikers – all are now welcome at Fineshade Wood Campsite. With 82 pitches across four pitch types, there's a right fit for every kind of stay; from first-time campers to seasoned caravanners who know just what they need.
The campsite sits on the edge of the woodland, quiet and secluded, with friendly onsite wardens here to help you find your pitch on arrival and make sure the site remains neat and tidy throughout your stay. Bins are located at either end of the campsite, as are the dog washing stations and there’s waste, drainage, electric hook-up and running water available for those who need them.

Please note, the management of this site have advised that from Monday (16 March 2026) the motorhome overnight parking option will be unavailable while they work behind the scenes on a brand-new upgrade.

The camping site is an area on the edge of the forest which has plenty of walking/cycling tracks. And a Nice cafe.
The site has no facilities and is quite spars but very quiet, just like wild camping, you do not need to book pay at machine £14 for 24 hours, very reasonable
