This site is a welcome addition to Cowal, as the other sites that we've stayed at (before or after getting the ferry) have all gone over to statics or lodges. Friendly helpful young owners. Book in advance, to get the security barrier code by text; no card reader at Reception, so we paid by cash. £30 pn for a widely-spaced EHU HS pitch, or £35 for a serviced pitch - these 5 pitches are on a higher terrace, sunnier & farther from the main road (can be noisy in daytime).
We'd happily stay again: it's walking distance to Benmore Botanics (and its café) on the traffic-free old road that goes past the rear of the site behind a screen fence with a key-coded gate; plenty more local forestry walks and cycling options. Impressed by the (free) hotel standard wet room showers; no hairdryer, but I don't use one. The free Wi-Fi works well. If your children must have a play area, this is not the site for you, but there is a communal BBQ area. And the Red Squirrels on the feeders beside the site were a delight to watch.
There are no pubs or shops in walking distance; a wide range of eateries is listed on the website, to drive or cycle to, and some will deliver. 10% off at the Redwood Café at the Botanics if you show your booking confirmation.
As a former tent camper, I noted that there was no roofed shelter or small "campers kitchen" like we've seen on other independent sites, so you'd stay in your tent or car during the regular deluges we had. There's no EHU in the tent area & I saw nowhere to recharge phones or power banks; maybe there's a spare socket in Reception when it's open.
On a positive note, there were no midges this late in the season, but they can be brutal hereabouts in a damp summer: come prepared.
In short, we recommend the site.

A much needed new site in the Dunoon area since Invereck closed. Great wee site with friendly hosts.
Handy for Benmore gardens, which is a stunning day out.
One word of caution. Being right at the foot of the Benmore forest, it can be liable to flooding if there's been serious rainfall, so may close. The area is a bit of a rain catchment zone.

Secret Glen Campsite is an absolute gem on the west coast. The facilities are excellent, with toilets that are truly first-class—spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
The entire site is tidy and clearly cared for, which makes for a really comfortable and relaxing stay.
One of the standout features is how peaceful and quiet it is, perfect for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy nature without disturbance.
If you’re planning a trip to the west coast, this is definitely the place to stay.
Highly recommended for both short visits and longer getaways.

This is a great little site with good facilities. Showers and toilets are brand new and very classy.
Small but good outdoor washing up area with plenty of hot water.
The pitches are large, level and not too close together.
Owners were lovely, contactable by phone (or email) if they weren't on site.
We stayed for 4 nights - it was quiet and peaceful (a must for any red squirrel/bird fans).
It's not far from the ferry at Dunoon and Benmore Botanical Gardens is an easy walk away (with a campsite discount available at the cafe).
Top notch 😊
