This campsite is set up on a hill, about a 10 minute walk from Lake Brienz, one of the two beautiful tourquoise lakes that join together at Interlacken.
It's an unusual set up as you pass by all of the pitches before reaching the reception area, its usually the other way around. The pitches are on 2 levels, some on ground level, the others on terraces. We had one on a terrace.
It rained very heavily for the first few days of our stay, so our pitch was very muddy for most of our time there. We were located near the main gate, so the sanitary facilities were a bit of a walk, especially when it was raining.
The location is very good, there's a bus stop 5 minutes walk away, which brings you into Interlacken, where you can connect with buses and trains. You pay a tourist tax as part of your fee for the campsite, you get a local transport card once you pay this tax. This card allows you to travel free all around the lakes.
Brienz village is very nice and Iseltwald, a small village across the lake is worth a visit. We travelled back across on one of the beautiful steamboats that brings passengers to the main sights on the lake.
We also took the historic cog train up to Schynige Platte, where we did a 5k loop walk. The views down to the lakes were breathtaking.
Another day we visited Meiringen and took the funicular up to the Reichenbachfall, where Sherlock Holmes struggled with Moriarty and may have fallen in. We climbed up to the top of the spectacular waterfall and had a coffee on the terrace of a lovely cafe at the top. As part of your ticket, you get free in to the Sherlock Holmes Museum in Meiringen. This is located in an old church and was really good, They had recreated the parlour in 221B Baker Street, it was very well done.
We enjoyed our stay at this campsite. There is so much to do and see in this area. The cable cars, cog train, etc are very expensive, and we found the choice of excursions a bit overwhelmimg. I would advise to pick a few things you'd like to see and then spend the rest of the time enjoying the lakes.
The campsite is a good base as its 15 minutes from Interacken on the bus. The sanitary facilities are very clean. There are only 2 showers in the male and female bathrooms, which meant that there were queues at busy times.
There was a small shop with basic provisions. Bread could be ordered, but only before 4pm the previous day.
There was a small bar, with local beer on draft. It only opened at the weekend, or maybe the owner decided not to open due to heavy rain other evenings, I'm not quite sure.
There was no inside space, ie common room or seating area. I think this would have been useful during the rainy days, especially for people in tents.
The owners are very nice people, they speak fluent english and were incredibly helpful. They have a lovely golden retreiver dog who greets everyone when they arrive.
