Sited on an old fort island in the city's defences, it's a quick cycle into town. Utrecht is delightful- a couple of canals, a tapas bar, a mini-Amsterdam without the hordes. Climb the 400 steps to the top of the Domtoren for a spectacular view. Or not.
The site is sprawling and a wee bit scruffy in layout, and the drainage isn't brilliant, but the custodian is endlessly helpful and the free showers make up for a lot.
Cycling is so quick here but you need to change your mindset vis-a-vis cycling in the UK- think roads but with two wheels and get with the program.
