 This is the municipal campsite for Laval. It's a few kms west of the city centre. Make sure if cycling to approach it via Saint Berthelin town centre and not the bottom of the river valley as I did, as you will have an unnecessary hill to climb. The site is very quiet.
Friendly welcome and very usefully a common room with kettle, microwave, sockets for charging and tables and chairs. It was a cold night, so good to be able to sit somewhere in doors. There are modern wash blocks but the shower I used on arrival had a faulty mixer tap and I could not get hot water. I reported this to reception and got the impression this was something they keep trying to fix when frankly the mixertaps need complete replacement. I got a whiff of local council bureaucracy at work.
There are some basic shops in St Berthelin including a Dominos Pizza, which I am sad to report was not good. Bad pizza and cotton wool tasting chips! There are larger supermarkets further away, not the easiest to reach due to busy roads. There is a popular restaurant down the bottom of the hill next to the river (5 mins walk) but it was closed the evening I was there.
I was able to get most of the way to the site from the Velofrancette on local cycle paths.
