 Campingplatz Zum Fährturm is in the southern Mosel/Moselle on the banks of the river north of Trier and is attached to a yacht haven. Access to the site is easy if not obvious (it is better signposted coming from the direction of Issel than it is coming down the Mosel riverside road from Mehring).
Reception is in the bar, some English is spoken, payment is in CASH ONLY. There are motorhome pitches nearer the entrance and thus nearer the river. We were pitched on a touring pitch which was on grass and thankfully, had some shade during a heatwave. We were able to choose our own pitch and the pitches seem somewhat haphazard in their layout.
We only found one sanitation block it was clean but could do with an update. As mentioned, there is a bar on site and a restaurant with some riverside seating. The restaurant menu isn't huge but the food was very good and reasonably priced.
At the back of the site there is a coded gate which allows access to a water park, retail park with supermarket and an extremely popular Italian restaurant.
The site has a slipway allowing the launch of boats and water sports may be possible (not our thing so we didn't try).
The B53 which is the main road which runs along the banks of the Mosel runs behind the site so there can be a lot of traffic noise during the day. There is a bridge crossing the river taking local traffic and on the opposite bank is the A602 autobahn to Trier. While the local traffic quietens down at night, the autobahn although not as busy, still has traffic throughout the night. We were able to zone the traffic noise out so weren't overly bothered by it, others may feel different.
Thanks to temperatures in excess of 38°C thanks to the heatwave, we didn't feel inclined to explore the local area, keeping cool was the order of the day (the ice cream sundae's available at the site bar/restaurant helped to some degree).
We bought our bread/pastries etc from the EDEKA supermarket accessed via the rear gate, it was closed on Sunday.
