August 2004 A nice well kept site with good facilities but a couple of negative point from my point of view.
The site itself is about 15 minutes drive from the coast and hyper market and sits amongst plenty of trees and most of the pitches have at least partial shade. Much less in the way of pines as well, so dropping sap is not such a problem (although we have a few drops on one corner of our tent). The pitches, as seems to be very typical round this area are mainly dust and the roads round the site are tarmac. The pitches are all bordered with hedges and are all a reasonable size, although shape and size vary from pitch to pitch. A few people had some very large units in, so access for these does not seem to be a problem. A fair few pitches had very nice looking static caravans and there is one area which has log cabins. There are three toilet blocks with separate sex facilities, chemical waste disposal, pot washing sink, clothes washing sinks and a dog shower in each, and a token operated launderette in the main block next to the bar. There was a freezer in here as well for you to freeze ice packs. English is spoken a little by most of the staff and, apart from one who was generally always miserable, were all very nice and helpful.
As for the rest of the facilities, the site has a good pool with a new slide, a bar with a small arcade in it, a take away, a shop and a function room. They hire cycles as well. There is a nice children’s play area, a volleyball/sports area (both of these on sand) and a tennis court, as well as the ubiquitous Petanque area. There is also a small gym and an outdoor table tennis table.
They organise daily activities for those who wish to get involved. They have a children’s club and activities run right through into the evening. While we were there they had daily water aerobics, sumo wrestling, climbing wall, moules evening, karaoke and loads more. This did mean there was a little bit of noise for those pitches near the facilities, but everything had finished by 11.30pm. These activities were all free, and you were never pressurised into going.
So the site has many thing going for it, but what about those negative points? Well the largest pitches, as we discovered, are right by the road. There is a hedge, but if you get these pitches you’ll be about twenty feet from the road, and it’s not a quiet back road so you’ll have traffic passing all day, and worse, at night. I was woken up every night by a tractor pulling a very noisy trailer – obviously a local farmer going to the fields. I did spoil that ‘sitting outside in peace and quiet’ factor that I rate so high. The other negative was, in my opinion, the strange ratio of toilets in the gents. There were four urinals, three WC’s - one of which was those lovely Greek style squat over the hole jobs, eight showers and eight individually enclosed sinks. You rarely got chance to go straight to the toilet because there was often a queue, unless you were okay with the squatting that is. I feel a few less sinks and a few more toilets would have been much better. By the way, the ladies only had one more WC I was informed, so it wasn’t much better. The only other thing I discovered, on our last day, was one area to the rear of the tennis court that was all statics with the exception of one pitch. This looked a horrible place to be as it was very isolated from the other campers and the static’s were a bit crowded.
So overall a good site, but would I go again? Probably, but I’d make sure to ask for a pitch away from the road.
I would have given it 7 out of 10, but because of the road, only 6 out of 10 I’m afraid.
