Please note we have been advised by the site owners that this site no longer has any touring pitches at all, it is now a static caravan park only.
March 2005 This isn’t a bad site, however, in it’s present state it won’t be winning any awards either!! It is owned by the Point Lodge Hotel opposite, where I had to register on my arrival. In my humble opinion, this is a classic example of a site crying out for someone to take a bit of interest in it and give it some tlc. As you pass through the entrance, right in front of you is a large garden area containing bushes and shrubs, however, like the rest of the garden areas, it is choked with weeds.
There are a mixture of touring and static pitches, but there are more vacant static pitches than there are in use, something which I always think gives a site a bit of a “hang dog” look. The touring pitches are hard standings with a grass area next to them, useful if you intend erecting an awning. All pitches have electrics, and many have a water tap and drainage point. The amenities block is large and new looking, with all the usual facilities, and the toilets and showers, which are in separate areas, were always immaculate during my stay. Although there are numerous lights fitted to the overhanging eaves area, they were never lit resulting in the area surrounding the block being very dark at night. There is a shop which was empty, but diagonally across the road there is a filling station with a good shop attached, and Londonderry is only about 10/15 minutes away with a handy Tesco store at a roundabout at the junction of the A6 Belfast road and the road which takes you round and down to the Foyle bridge.
This appears to be the only touring site in the Inishowen area of Co.Donegal, and although there is plenty of open space around these parts, the site is basically at the side of the road, between it and the shore of Lough Foyle. The next nearest site is at Portsalon on the other side of Lough Swilly.
As I said at the beginning, this isn’t necessarily a bad site, but with just a little bit of care and attention, it could be considerably better. To end on a positive note, The Point Lodge Hotel opposite can be thoroughly recommended. The food is excellent, well priced and the staff are very attentive.
