 We stayed here for one night on our way home. It’s a really quiet site, there’s woodland next door with a couple of lakes where you could fish.
The site is on the site of the hall it’s named after that was demolished as part of the requirements when the club bought the land, it’s history is in the information hut and is quite an interesting read.
To get to site you need to go down a country lane.
There is no facilities block which isn’t an issue as we have our own. Pitches are well spaced out amongst trees and in the open.
Staff were very friendly and they have a small shop n reception, handy for when you’ve got no milk left!
Would definitely go to this site again, it’s useful for a stop off when going up or down the M6.

Overnight stop and the last site of my Scottish trip in July 2025.
The site has no facilities block (I missed that in the site information/description), however, there were more than one CDPs and water taps, and a MSP. Therefore, one would need to have one's own facilities such as toilet, shower and washing up.
The relative low nightly price for a club site should have rung alarm bells; however it didn't, DOH!
Very neat, clean and tidy with helpful and friendly staff, who rang to ask when I would be arriving, so as to take final payment and to give me the information on which pitch had been allocated to me and how to hook up to EHU etc. , in case the office was closed by the time I arrived.
I arrived shortly before 19:00 and was greeted warmly by a member of the staff as they were about to close the office.
Probably due to the lack of a facilities block, I could not remember hearing or seeing any children, and it was very quiet!
On departure, there was a queue for the MSP so choose your departure time wisely if one does not wish to wait. I did not wait to dump the grey water as I would be blocking the road for other campers to get out.
Would I have stayed there had I known there was no facilities? Probably not to be honest, even though my van has her own facilities.
I searched CAMC's website for sites near Carlisle which did not allow search filters to be applied unlike UKCS (UKCS's Search facility is great in that respect), and the information about not having a facilities block was kind of buried in the site's long and not that easy to read information/description section.
Had I used UKCS to search for sites with facilities, it would not have been included in the results. Lesson learnt the hard way to use UKCS's Search facility first and foremost for its ease of use and ability to apply search filters to suit one's needs.
Good job I had my own facilities as I did not realise the lack of a facilities block until just gone 18:00 when they tried to ring me while I was having a pit stop at Gretna Green!
Still a good and pleasant stay and it served its purpose as an overnight stop that I would recommend.

What a beautiful well kept site, a very peaceful location with walks through the woods past lakes and ponds directly from site.
No facilities block so you will need your own on board facilities. A 15 minute drive from the centre of Carlisle with its castle and cathedral both worth a visit.
We stopped for a few nights to break our journey south as it is only a few miles from the M6, however, we will be back for a longer stay to investigate the wider area.

Completely agree with the previous reviews.
Lovely setting, quiet and peaceful, fantastic on and off site dog-walks, beautifully maintained with a pleasing mix of natural and cultivated plants, trees and vegetation, friendly and hard-working site managers - and a sensible year-round price.
We booked a return visit straight away for later in the year.

One of the nicest sites we've stayed on. We booked here for 4 nights, as we like C&MC sites but the ones with toilet/shower blocks are becoming very expensive.
This type of site is the future.
All the great features of a club site at only £24 a night. A beautifully well kept site, in a nice woodland setting, friendly wardens.
Excellent forest walks directly from the site and one of the best dog walks we've seen on site. Very quiet and peaceful.
We certainly will return. We have just booked, C&MC North York Moors site, similar, type and price, can't wait.

Fisherground Campsite - Eskdale
Nestling in the beautiful Eskdale Valley close to Scafell, England's highest mountain and Wastwater, this site is a children's paradise in the heart of the Lake District. The first thing that meets you on arrival is the pond, fed by a stream and usually full of children paddling and playing on tyre rafts. The playground has zip wires, climbing frames, tyre rope-swings and adventure courses.
Grass pitches (some with EHU) for tents, motorhomes, VW-sized campervans (no caravans). Refurbished toilets, showers and laundry. Peace is the watchword on the campsite - catering mainly for families and couples with silence after 10.30pm. Don't forget your marshmallows - campfires are allowed in selected areas. Nearby shop and pub. And there's an added extra: the site sits along the route of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway line, with it's own station. Choo Choo! Find out more here

We have visited this site on numerous occasions over the years and are never disappointed.
The weather was inclement, there was a handful of pitches underwater but as always, the site was full of colour with wildflowers and planters, well maintained which isn't easy with the amount of rain we've had and the wardens welcoming.
The Greyhound pub at Cotehill is within walking distance but has limited opening hours and with nothing else to look at in the village we didn't get to have a drink or eat there but I believe it does very good food and is dog friendly.
There is a good supply of basics and treats available in the small reception area on the site.
Club WiFi worked for me around the site but I don't think it's reliable all of the time, same with phone signal, it can be hitty missy.
The communal water / waste / bin area's are clean and under cover.
The MH service point is very user friendly.

Second visit to this tranquil site, no facilities but we were on a service pitch so no big deal.
Beautiful setting amongst trees in glorious countryside.
They have a red squirrel hide but we found we could watch them on the ground and in the trees from our caravan.
Lovely friendly wardens who do a good job of keeping the place spotless.

What a fantastic site. At the entrance is a flowerbed with words written on pieces of slate describing the site.
Peaceful, tranquil, birdsong are just a few of the words and how right they are. The site has no toilet block so you do need your own facilities.
There is no late night arrivals area so make sure you arrive before 8pm. We stayed for 3 weeks and had a really peaceful and restful holiday.
There is loads to do in the area from Hadrians Wall to the Lake District. It is only 10 mins from the M6 so there are lots of one night stop overs, but I do recommend you stay a while longer.
The site is great for dogs with walks on the site and off the site. There is a small field where you can exercise your dog off lead plus walks through the woods.
The site is not on a bus route so you do need your own transport. There is a pub in Cotehill about a mile from the site which is dog friendly and serve pub meals, but lunchtime opening is a bit iffy.
All in all this is a great site and not to be overlooked because of the lack of facilities. Afterall most of us have paid thousands for ensuite showers and toilets.
Give Englethwaite Hall a try you will love it.

Beautiful little site, lovely warm welcome by the new wardens who held a get together with drinks etc for the Jubilee. Lucky enough to be on a serviced pitch to make up for the lack of a toilet block.
Also lucky again to be pitched within the WiFi Hot spot area and the speed was pretty good.
One area is quite open with plenty of sunshine and countryside views, the others sheltered by trees and lovely bushes.
Only there for three nights but managed to visit Hadrians Wall and stunning Ullswater which was very busy for the Jubilee weekend.
Definitely one to revisit for longer.

This is an excellent site in the Eden Valley.
You need a car to make the best of the area - it’s a good base for Carlisle, the northern Lakes and Eden valley.
No toilet and shower facilities so you need to be self contained.
Lovely site - will certainly use it again.
